What happens at end of the 2023-24 North Wales Women’s Football League season?
How will the prizes be decided when the new-look regionalised North Wales Women’s Football League ends its first season?
The 2023-24 campaign has seen the league split into East and West divisions. Seven teams are in the East and six in the West.
When the winners of East and West – looking likely to be Flint Town United and Pwllheli respectively – are crowned they will play off in a final to decide the overall North Wales Women’s League champions.
The winners of the final will also earn promotion to the Tier 2 Genero Adran North League, provided they have applied to go up and their ground meets the criteria.
If the winners are not eligible for or do not want promotion, the runners-up can take their place provided they comply with the relevant standards.
If neither NWWFL finalist applies for promotion, or if both fail the criteria test, any club can apply to fill a Genero Adran North vacancy, be they currently play in Tier 3 or might get relegated from Tier 2.
Two teams from the Tier 3 North Wales Women’s League have submitted an application for promotion – Flint Town United and Llangefni Town.
North East Wales FA general secretary Dave Fawkes explained: “Top of east and west play off for the league title. The winner will be in a position to be promoted subject to ground criteria. Runner up will be able to gain promotion subject to ground criteria if the winner is unable or doesn’t want to be promoted.”
Mr Fawkes added the majority of clubs had requested an end-of-season final between the East and West champions to decide the overall league winner.
“We had suggested top two with a semi final and final, but they wanted only the top team in each group,” he said.
“Any team though can apply for a vacant position if ground criteria is met.”
