Ardal North West – Rhyl 1879 bounce back to move eight points clear, Llay now second

Resilient Rhyl again displayed their ability to bounce back from a bad loss as they came out on top in today’s top of the table clash at Roe Plas Meadows.

Beaten 4-1 at home by Llangefni Town last weekend, the Lilywhites needed a positive response and delivered it at their second-place opponents.

Earlier in the campaign, Rhyl crashed 4-1 at Belle Vue to Flint Mountain, but rallied with seven straight league wins and 10 victories in their next 11 outings.

Manager Gareth Thomas called for a big performance at St Asaph and the team produced it to move eight points clear at the summit.

The visitors, who lost key players Adam Hold and Dan Sim to other clubs during the week, got on with the job in hand and took a 19th minute lead when Reece Fairhurst provided the ball which led to Callum Parry finishing well in a one-on-one with keeper Luke Jones.

It remained 1-0 up to half time and the next goal would not arrive until the 71st minute, Rhyl again supplying it.

This time it was a Leigh Craven assist which enabled Mark Roberts to make it 2-0.

Saints fought back and reduced the arrears through Ryan Potts with 89 gone, but it was the visitors who banked the all-important points.

Conwy Borough 2 Hawarden Rangers 3

After losing at home to Conwy last weekend, Hawarden exacted sweet revenge at Y Morfa this afternoon.

In a dynamoc first half display, Rangers established a three-goal lead thanks to Connor Parry (2) and Tom Bridges.

Boro rallied in the second half, but a Ray Knight double on 77 and 90 minutes was not enough to save them.

Holyhead Hotspur 1 Llanrwst United 1

Cory Williams’ 15th goal of the season on 72 minutes salvaged a point for Holyhead at home to the battling Rwsters.

Sam Thomas’ ninth-minute strike had given the visitors a half-time advantage.

Llanrwst held on for the draw despite having Cai Evans red-carded on 90 minutes.

Llangefni Town 0 Brickfield Rangers 1

Funny old game.

Seven days after rocking the league with a 4-1 win at leaders Rhyl 1879, Llangefni crashed at home to Brickfield Rangers.

Gerson Silva Neto bagged the only goal of the game on 68 minutes at Cae Bob Parry.

Pwllheli 1 Llay Welfare 2

A fourth league win in a row – three on their travels – for Llay has lifted them to second in the table.

Mike Gadie and Steven Halliwell’s men are eight points behind table-toppers Rhyl 1879 with two games in hand.

Dean Bryan broke the deadlock in Welly’s favour three minutes into stoppage time at the end of the first half.

Louis McFarlane levelled for Pwllheli on the hour, but Matthew Thompson plundered the inner for the Wrexham side on 65 minutes.
