Meliden coach Dan Sleet was more than satisfied with an away point against the league leaders last Saturday.

In difficult conditions, both sides had opportunities but neither could break the deadlock in a close-fought contest.

“When you look at the conditions today, and the fact that they’re top, I think over the course of the game a point is a fair result and a point that actually we would have taken (before the game), so there’s no harm done there in that regard,” said Sleet.

“Over the course of the game, they had their chances, we had some chances. The pitch was boggy, very hard to play on, neoither team got any rhythm. It was a strange game in many ways, very stop-start, but that was the largely down to the conditions.”

Third-place Meliden are seven points behind leaders Phoenix with three games in hand.

Sleet said everyone is now looking forward to the key month of March, where many vital points will be up for grabs in the title race.

He added: “Every game is a cup final when you’re going for something, which we are. We need to keep this positive frame of mind for the weeks ahead.”

A great performance from Bro Cernyw, the outcome a much-welcome win after some good performances but not the results to match.

The aim is now to kick on and build on this result
