Menai Bridge gave the clearest indication yet that they could be title contenders with Saturday’s three-goal victory at second-place Nefyn.
Two goals from Callum Graves and one via Craig Roberts gave Tigers an important win over a Penwaig outfit who were top of the table at start of the day and unbeaten in the league at Cae’r Delyn.
The first goal came in the 11th minute, good work from Callum Davidson taking the ball from the halfway line and forcing Andrew Gunby into a save. The ball spilled out to Tom Parry on the edge of the area who fed in Graves for a measured finish.
In the 55th minute Jamie Ryan Jones won the ball high up the pitch to release Graves, who squared the ball to Dean Redmond.
Gunby made a close-range save from Redmond causing a scramble on the goal-line. Graves was on hand to poke the ball over for his and Tigers’ second of the game
Nefyn pushed for a way back into the game but chances were limited.
Hopes of a comeback were dented when defender Daniel Roberts was shown a second yellow card for dissent on 83 minutes, and dashed completely when Bridge scored a third goal two minutes later.
Lewis Clayton played the ball into the path of Craig Roberts, who duly won a 50-50 to leave himself with a clear run on goal with 40 yards to go.
The veteran forward used his experience to compose himself and tuck the ball past Gunby for his 10th goal of the season.
Six of the best from Trearddur Bay, who stretched their season-long unbeaten record in the Premier to 11 matches.
Asa Thomas was on-fire once more, netting a hat-trick for the hosts to make it 21 league goals for the season and 34 in all matches. Thomas struck on 15, 84 and 90+4.
Les Davies also impressed, scoring on three and 21, while Cameron Buckley added another. Ashley Davies got one back for Pentraeth.
A first win of 2024 for Cemaes Bay and a welcome clean sheet.
After a goalless first half, midfielder Ryan Folksman edged the visitors in front on the hour via a Rhys Thomas assist.
Ben Hughes then scored his first Cemaes goal from the penalty spot 20 minutes from time to seal the victory.
Chris Bennett was on the mark twice for a Gwalchmai side that returned to top spot in the Premier Division.
Visitors Llanberis took a two-goal lead at the half-hour stage, Ifan Mansoor with both goals for the Darans.
Kaine Bentley replied on 34 with his 28th goal of the campaign, then Bennett levelled the match in first half stoppage time.
Connor Owen converted a penalty after 63 minutes to edge Gwalch ahead for the first time and Bennett clinched the points with his second on 82.
Alwyn Roberts, Sion Bullock and Iwan (Pij) Morris bagged the goals which banked maximum points for Llandegai.
Owain Jones-Owen and Aled Ellis put Blaenau two-up before Cameron Owen gave Llangoed some hope by halfing the deficit on 79 minutes.
However, Blaenau held on for the win.
After falling three behind, 10-man Cefni fought back courageously to reduce the arrears to a single goal, but Gaerwen clung on for the spoils.
Keiran Williams (44), Nathan Moore (47) and Dylan Jones (54) all netted in a 10-minute spell to put the Auctioneers in command before the hour.
When Taliesin Huws was red-carded for Cefni on 55, it looked gloomy for the hosts, but they were far from finished.
Dion Jones (pen) and Luke Pumfrey cut it back to 3-2 with a minute of the 90 remaining, but there was to be no equaliser.
Leon Owen, Leon Buckland and Jordan Pritchard – with a decisive 89th minute third – made sure the points went back to Bethesda.
Andy Will replied for Holyhead, who were always in the contest.
Owen Pritchard, Guto Griffith and sub Darren Parry supplied the all-important goals for Llanystumdwy, Llanfairpwll running them close with responses from Gethin Owen and sub Gwyndaf Hughes.
Match abandoned with Boded leading 2-0.
