Report: Steve Roberts
Amlwch recovered from two goals down to claim a point in a Sunday’s West league tussle at Ysgol Syr Thomas Jones.
It was back to the school field for this game where weather conditions were a bit more favourable than the previous week.
Amlwch chose to start against the breeze and uphill and had the away team under early pressure.
Llan were sending balls over the home defence but most ran on to keeper Ceri Pritchard.
On 13 minutes, one of these route one deliveries led to a Llan corner and after a rebound Heledd Savage lashed home powerfully.
Amlwch continued to press forward, but the Llan defence stood firm. Then on 30 minutes the ball broke loose 40 yards out and a Savage strike with wind behind flew into the Amlwch net.
The second half started with a lot possession for Town, but they met a resolute Llan defence.
Only one clear cut chance came along when Cerys Gadd hit a quick free kick goalwards and forced a great save from Llan’s ever-reliable keeper Sara Lacey.
Then on 70 minutes, Amlwch got the breakthrough they wanted.
A strong challenge at the back was made by Lauren Bate and the ball found its way to Lowri Thomas who finished coolly in the corner. Game on.
Another Amlwch attack minutes later saw Shannon Thomas tripped in the box. Emma Roberts had the responsibility to draw Amlwch level from the spot which she did superbly.
Could Amlwch go on and take all 3 points? Further half chances came their way, but Llan held firm so honours even.
