Hogan Gwynedd and Anglesey Netball League: Winter 2023-24 – latest results and tables

Cymric Caernarfon put up a fantastic battle against high-flyers Genod Walis in Division Two last week

Arfon Ladies lost for the first time this season in the Hogan Gwynedd and Anglesey Netball Winter League last Wednesday when Menai Mavericks stunned the multi-champions with a 27-20 result in Division One.

Mavericks led just 15-14 at half time, but the Anglesey side took the next two quarters 5-2 and 7-4 to end Arfon’s run of 10 straight wins.

Pwllheli Panthers lead the table by six points, although second-place Arfon have a game in hand.

Third-place Walis Bryncoch overcame Holyhead 32-24 thanks largely to a first quarter which saw the Caernarfon side establish a 10-1 lead.

The Holy Islanders rallied to win the second 10-7 and drew the third 8-8, but Bryncoch made sure of the honours by edging the last 7-5.

Cira Williams was the star player for Walis, while Ceri Williams stood out for Caergybi.

Primos narrowly beat Fflamau Brynrefs 24-21 in what was a close contest throughout, Tim o Walis were always in command in a 36-26 triumph over Celts Bach and Bethesda produced a strong final session to outscore bottom side Walib’s 26-18.

DIVISION TWO action saw leaders Rebals Refail defeat Blaenau Ffestiniog 28-15, Cara Davies shining brightest for the winning side, while second-place Genod Walis only just nudged past Cymric Caernarfon 23-22.

Walis trailed 17-13 ahead of the closer, but then took the final session 10-5 to pip the next-to-bottom side in the match of the night.
