Great news for North Wales grassroots – Meliden Football Club have secured their current home until 2049 at least!

The Tier 4 North Wales Coast East Premier Division club have a new 25-year lease on The Mine.

In a statement released yesterday, Tom Fletcher, chairman of the club based near Prestatyn said: “We are extremely delighted to announce that today the lease has been signed by the trustees of the club and representatives of the council for the transfer of land situated off Ffordd Ty Newydd to Meliden Football Club for the continued use of footballing activities for the next 25 years.

“A really important milestone in our continued journey to grow this football club.

“It’s been 15 months of hard work to get to this day, now it’s arrived it means the club has become the tenant of both our ground and changing rooms, but more importantly it gives us the foundations and security for the next 25 years.

“After starting the process back in October 2022, it was vital that I put the club’s best interests at the forefront of the lease. After a lot of conversing and working alongside the council, it became apparent both parties were happy with the proposals set out in the final lease document.

“I want to thank Rebecca Williams, Drew Tait, Michael Bennion and Helen Warburton for putting up with my relentless chasing and making the lease become a reality for MFC.

“This will now unlock so much potential for us, we are able to apply for many more grants, we are able to make the changes that we want to both the ground and changing rooms, we will be ever closer to starting the junior section and the facilities are going to improve drastically in order to benefit not only the club but the local community.

“We have many more projects in the background that have been riding on the completion of this lease, it’s going to be a very exciting year for us.

“Please keep a lookout on our socials over the next week or two for another really big statement in our continued journey of growth.”

Good luck to a great club!
