BETTY PICKERING CUP GROUP A

Northop Hall 4 (Sharps 2 pen, Gorecka, Price)
Amlwch Town 4 (Gadd, E Jones, Lewtas, E Roberts)

Report supplied by Stephen Richard Roberts (Amlwch Town)

Amlwch’s trips to Northop Hall over the last few years had not seen them produce their best performances.

On Sunday, this all seemed to about to change.

With Bethan Jones bossing the midfield, Amlwch found themselves 2-0 up within the first 20 minutes, courtesy of two lovely finishes from Cerys Gadd and Ellie Jones.

Amlwch looked comfortable and it appeared like that poor run in Flintshire would end.

Then around 30 minutes in, a Northop attack saw a number of players come together in the box and a penalty was awarded. It was finished well by Ellen Sharps, 2-1 half time.

Northop were now in the ascendancy and quickly turned around the deficit. Firstly a headed goal from a corner by Brygida Gorecka and an unfortunate rebound from which Tyler Price applied the finish saw Amlwch a goal behind.

The game was now end to end. Gorecka taking on the whole Amlwch defence on occasions but they did not take a step back.

Town pushed for the equalizer and midway through the second half, a cross come shot from Ellie Jones was met on the far post by Katie Lewtas, who finished superbly for 3-3.

Within minutes, Gorecka was adjudged to have been pulled down in the box, Sharps converted from the spot and Northop were ahead again.

With 10 minutes remaining, Amlwch ventured forward once more. Emma Roberts passed one defender, side-stepped another and lashed a 20 yard shot into the top corner.

A draw was fair with both teams showing passion and commitment and not only playing against each other but also the strong cross wind.

A great advert for the women’s game.
