GENERO ADRAN NORTH – JANUARY 14, 2024

CPDM Y Felinheli 4 (Ffion Williams 15, 35, 44 & 69)

One of the finest results in Felinheli’s history featured a truly great individual performance from four-goal star Ffion Williams.

Nomads were top of the table and had won six out of six before running into today’s ruthless visitors to Deeside Stadium.

Not only did Quay lose their 100 percent record, they were also knocked off top spot in Genero Adran North by Llandudno, who were 4-0 winners at CPD Y Rhyl 1879.

Before today, Nomads had only conceded four goals in their first six games.

Due to games being cancelled before Christmas, it had been a long lay-off but Felinheli were more than up to the challenge.

The game started really well for Felin with the midfield trio of Fflur Williams, Jenna Tugwell-Allsup and Hana Wellings dictating the pace and being first to every second ball and really strong in the challenges.

After 15 minutes of dominating the play the breakthrough was made. Tugwell-Allsup made one of her trademark runs through the midfield and found Katie Midwinter who lofted a lovely ball through to the onrushing Ffion Williams.

Through one-on-one with the goalkeeper, Williams made no mistake and rifled home  – no more than Felinheli deserved.

It wasn’t long before it was 2-0. Catrin Evans was this time the provider, playing a defence-splitting pass through to Williams, who timed her run to perfection and slotted in the bottom corner with her left foot – clinical play from the Felinheli front 3.

Felinheli continued to pressure the hosts, who could not mount any offence due to the speed of the away back four – Jody Cain, Llio Henshaw, Jordanne Greenough and Shannon Jones snuffing out any chances that came their way.

The pressure paid off on 44 minutes with Ffion Williams bagging her first half hat-trick. Again some superb play through the middle of the park from Tugwell-Allsup, Wellings and Midwinter who drew a foul.

Greenough took the resulting free kick and found Fflur Williams who cleverly helped the ball into Ffion Williams and she made it a treble with the outside of her right foot.

Felinheli went into half time with a healthy 3-0 lead and total control of the game.

The visitors knew that Connah’s Quay would come out strong in the second period and they did.

Much stronger and much calmer on the ball, they pushed for a goal to change the tide, but again Felinheli were snuffing out the chances, Catrin Beech commanding her box and collecting everything that came to her box.

Felin made a change on 55 minutes with Wellings coming off for the returning Yasmin Williams.

Williams shored up the midfield but Nomads kept pushing for a foot in the game, However, as always, when Ffion Williams is on the pitch she is always a danger on the counter attack and in the 69th minute it was provenagain.

Catrin Evans, who had cut into the midfield from the right, played an exquisite reverse pass to Williams who again, one on one with the goalkeeper, powered her shot into the back of the net to make it 4-0.

Felinheli made some more changes with Nel Huws and Lois Williams replacing Midwinter, who had a fine afternoon, and Ffion Williams, who was by far the woman of the match.

Felinheli held on for a very impressive victory which has blown the league wide open and makes for a very Interesting few months.

Winning manager Aaron Jones-Evans said: “To score 4 goals against a team who have only conceded 4 goals all season is impressive, but what impressed me the most was the togetherness of the squad and the fight they showed to keep that clean sheet.

“The team spirit within this squad is a pleasure to see and I’m very proud of my players today; they deserved that win and deserve to enjoy it for a day or two but then it’s back to the grind and we put all of our attention into the next one. We need to carry this momentum and make sure we build on this performance.”
