The Auctioneers ended their 2023 fixtures on a high note with victory in last Saturday’s derby at Tyddyn Paun.
What a great game it proved to be at Llangoed. What Gaerwen have been working on in training is now starting to bear fruit during matches.
The first half saw the visitors create a few chances, but they were either guilty of missing them or Rhys Owen was producing some impressive saves in the home goal.
Both teams worked hard in the second half in search of a breakthrough. Eventually, the deadlock was broken in the 71st minute with Sion Jones scoring a lovely goal for the Auctioneers assisted by Calum Thomas.
Further good stops from Owen denied Gaerwen further goals, while Llangoed never stopped trying to get themselves back in it.

CPD Llanberis 5 CPD Mynydd Llandegai 3
An eight-goal thriller at Ffordd Padarn was only truly settled when Jonny Cyster netted a 90th minute fifth for Llanberis.
The Darans stormed into a 4-0 lead inside the opening 22 minutes, Peter Mansoor, Wil Williams and a Kurt Hellfeld double putting them in command.
Cameron Robertson replied on the half-hour to give Llandegai some hope for the second period.
After the break Mynydd made as real game of it, Alwyn Roberts netting on 57 minutes before a Benjamin Jones own goal on 80 brought it back to 4-3.
Llanberis would have been relieved when Cyster converted from a Cody O’Donnell assist with time running out.
CPD Penrhyndeudraeth 4 Llanrug United 4
An 85th minute own goal from Cedri Jones enabled Llanrug to leave Maes-y-Parc with a share of the points.
Jonathan Sadler gave United a ninth-minute lead, but Gwion Davies, Alun Hughes and Tom Hughes all struck to put Penrhyn 3-1 up before the half-hour.
In a goal-packed first half, Osian Williams and Kevin Lloyd responded for the visitors to make it three-apiece at the changeover.
The goals dried up in the second half, but Gwion Davies may have thought he had won it for Penrhyn when he made it 4-3 with 82 on the clock.
However, that late own goal enabled Llanrug to return home with a point.
