Genero Adran North: CPDM Y Felinheli win and move up to third

Catrin Evans notched her eighth goal of the season for Felinheli

GENERO ADRAN NORTH

NFA 2 (Webster 25, 45 pen)
CPDM Y Felinheli 3 (Tugwell-Allsup 6 & 29, Evans pen 16)

Jenna Tugwell-Allsup was on target twice for a Felinheli’s side whose victory pushed them up to third spot in Genero Adran North.

It was the Cae Seilo team’s first competitive game for three weeks due to postponements and they delivered themselves an early Christmas present.

Felin started the game strongly, keeping possession of the ball and putting the NFA back-line under a lot of pressure.

With Tugwell-Allsup making some great runs in behind the back four from midfield and Catrin Evans and Nel Huws providing quality balls into the box, the breakthrough came in only the sixth minute.

Some great link up play from Jody Cain and Evans on the right flank with saw the former loft a pin point ball over the top of the defence for the on rushing Tugwell-Allsup to calmly slot home.

Ten minutes later it was two thanks to an Evans penalty coolly slotted to the keeper’s left after an NFA player handled in the box. Felinheli were in complete control.

That was until the 25th minute where NFA worked the ball well on the right flank and crossed from the byline only for keeper Catrin Beech to collect on the line.

The referee, who was some distance from the play, judged that the ball had crossed the goal-line. Felin disagreed, but the goal from Amy Webster stood and it was 2-1.

In the 29th minute Felinheli restored their two-goal lead with again some great work down the right, Cain beating her marker and passing to Evans.

Two-goal star Jenna Tugwell-Allsup

Cain carried her run on as a decoy for Evans to cut in and play a sublime ball through to Tugwell-Allsup who had raced in behind the defence again. One-on-one with the goalkeeper she made no mistake – 3-1 to Felin.

NFA’s goalkeeper Katie Spruce made some smart saves but there was a little twist in the tale before the break.

The hosts played the ball into the Felin box and a disputed penalty was awarded which Webster converted.

Felinheli made some changes during the second half, Llio Henshaw making her return after a hiatus in Australia replacing Nel Huws, Hana Welllings came on for Lois Williams in the centre of the park and Erin Gwilym took the field in place of Jordanne Greenough, who had played most the game at centre back but moved to right wing when Henshaw came on.

The second half was one-way traffic, the dominant visitors restricting NFA to one shot at Beech’s goal.

Chance after chance came and went with again Spruce making some great saves in difficult conditions with the wind picking up.

Evans tried her luck a few times, Fflur Williams was foiled by the keeper and Shannon Jones missed from two yards out after some great build-up play.

Nevertheless, the game finished 3-2 to Felin who deserved the win but NFA battled hard throughout the game, props to both teams.

Felinheli manager Aaron Jones-Evans said: “Proud of the women today, it’s never easy coming into a game after such a long period without playing especially when that game is away from home in difficult conditions.

“I’m proud of how the women kept their heads, got on with the game and ultimately got the 3 points. We are all looking forward to the Christmas break now and hopefully next year won’t be as stop start as the start of the season.

The much-missed Karl Evans

“We would like the thank NFA for agreeing to our minute’s silence at the start of the game to remember a family member I had lost recently and also for a competitive game. We hope everyone has a great Christmas and we will see you all next year.”

Aaron dedicated the win to his cousin Karl Evans from Blaenau Ffestiniog, who passed away recently and in whose honour a minute’s silence was held.
