Dave’s Dynamic Dozen 2023-24 – how are they faring up to now?

We selected 12 North Wales football players to watch at the start of the season.

Four months into the 2023-24 campaign, how are they all performing?

Let’s assess their progress…..

Callum Queen (Holyhead Town)

This great 17-year-old prospect made a flying start to the season with four goals in his first four games.

Since August, he has netted just twice, but his overall record of six goals in 13 league and cup matches is still very respectable.

Callum’s progress has not been helped by the fact that Holyhead have lost their last eight games, but he remains a key player to Town with surely many good days ahead of him.

Tomos Clarke (Bangor 1876)

A very steady presence in the 1876 defence in the club’s first season at Cymru North level, where Tomas has operated previously in his career.

Has played in nine of the team’s 12 league games and made 14 appearances in all, scoring in a 7-1 Welsh Cup win against Cefn Albion.

Tom Weir (Denbigh Town)

Great form shown so far by this gifted individual who joined Denbigh from Tier 5 club Bow.

The 22-year-old Weir has notched seven goals in 18 matches, but is so much more than just a net-finder.

Has hit some important goals for the Cymru North newcomers including winners versus Gresford Athletic and Chirk AAA.

Antonio Jacovelli (NFA)

One of the big success stories of 2023-24 so far having netted 16 goals in 16 appearances for new club NFA.

A prolific past marksman at Tier 4 level with Prestatyn Sports, Jacovelli has continued to shine at this standard for NFA, who have won the majority of their matches.

Sam Gregson (Holyhead Hotspur)

Has been making quite an impression in America playing college football with New York side Onondaga.

At the end of August, he hit four goals on debut for his USA team against Finger Lakes and was named NJCAA Division Three Player of the Week.

Onondaga got to the state finals, had a perfectly good goal disallowed and lost on pens.

In a great season, Sam scored 12 and assisted 7 in 17 games, so was the team’s top goal scorer as a midfielder.

Sam is due to fly back to Wales on December 14.

He hopes to play a game or two for Holyhead Hotspur over the Christmas break, but will return to the USA in late January

Calyn Spencer (Flint Mountain)

After picking up a bad injury at the start of the season, Calyn has recovered well to play a major part in Flint Mountain’s great run which has seen them reach the Welsh Cup last 16 and final 32 of the FAW Amateur Trophy.

The attacking player has made 12 first team appearances and scored in a 4-1 win over Holyhead Hotspur.

Adam Hold (CPD Y Rhyl 1879)

Performing brilliantly for a Rhyl 1879 outfit currently in command at the Tier 3 Ardal North West summit.

Has scored five goals in 13 appearances including a cracking free kick in the recent 6-0 FAW Amateur Trophy victory at Penmaenmawr Phoenix.

Hold’s set-piece deliveries are a massive asset to the Lilywhutes.

Morgan Jones (Pwllheli)

Since joining Pwllheli from Porthmadog at the start of this season, Jones had made 17 appearances for the Rec side and kept four clean sheets.

Pwll’s form has gone off the boil in recent weeks, but Morgan remains a reliable keeper and great shot-stopper.

Osian Jones (Llangefni Town)

Has made 14 appearances and netted three times for a Llangefni side which has risen to second in Ardal North West after some excellent results.

Osian has added some real quality to the side in his attacking midfield role

Kallum Pierce (CPD Gronant)

Last season’s 36-goal hero with Aston Park Rangers is shaping up well for a Gronant side looking well capable of a North East Wales League Championship Challenge.

Not only has Pierce knocked in 14 goals in as many games for his new side, he has also added more to his team play under Sandy Malone.

Chris Smyth (Mochdre Sports)

The highlight of Smyth’s season so far came on November 25 when he notched a hat-trick for Sports in a 6-1 thrashing of Bro Cernyw.

Had an injury setback early in the campaign, but has looked solid since his return with six goals in nine appearances not a bad show at all.

Luis Hughes (Cefn Albion)

Eighteen-year-old who has made six appearances for Albion’s reserves to date and yet to get a first team opportunity.
