Decision made – North Wales Women’s Football League will split into two divisions of seven in 2023-24

The North Wales Women’s Football League will split into two divisions of seven for the 2023/24 season.

At a meeting in Kinmel Bay tonight, it was agreed an East and a West division will be established comprising seven teams apiece.

Five new teams will enter the league: CPD Merched Tref Caernarfon, Corwen, Welshpool Town, Kinmel Bay and Bellevue.

CPD Merched Tref Caernarfon were a youth side last season who now step up to senior football.

Caernarfon Town, who were in the league last season, are a completely separate entity.

The league is 12 games per team.

The Betty Pickering Cup will be played in a Champions League format so finalists will play 10 games.

Also another ‘Consolation Cup’ will be introduced for the teams knocked out in the group stages of the Betty Pickering. Clubs can also compete in the NEWFA and NWCFA Challenge Cups still.

Original North Wales Women’s League founder Bill Darwin was elected chairman of the league for 2023-24 by the clubs this evening.

It was also agreed to elect a club rep to sit on the NEWFA to provide additional voice to help clubs grow the women’s game and provide better communication.
