Popular goalkeeper has recorded 50 consecutive appearances for her present club

One of North Wales’ most experienced women footballers has reached 50 consecutive appearances for her club.

Goalkeeper Sara Lacey has represented Llanystumdwy in every match they have played since entering the North Wales Women’s League in 2021-22.

Sara, 34, from Caernarfon has a footballing CV anyone would be proud of.

She has been playing the game since the age of around 11, having always been a goalkeeper.

One of her greatest moments was saving the final shootout penalty to win the Welsh Schools Under-14 Cup for Syr Hugh Owen, Caernarfon in 2003.

This was during a golden era for Hugh Owen girls where they won WSFA Inter Schools Competitions at under-16, U-14 and U-12 levels.

Sara later played for Bangor City Girls alongside greats like Ceryl Jones, future Welsh international goalkeeper Nicky Davies and Ailsa Orlik.

In 2006, another major high in Sara’s football career saw her reach the Women’s Welsh Cup Final with Pwllheli, where the Llŷn Peninsula ladies were beaten by a very strong Cardiff City outfit which included Jessica Fishlock and Loren Dykes, both future 100-cap Wales stars, in their line-up.

More recent years have seen Sara play for the likes of Mountain Rangers and for the last three seasons she has been Llanystumdwy’s No1.

Sara is a very popular character in women’s football and a great role model for any aspiring young goalkeepers.
