Jess Jones’ 21st goal of the season was enough to secure Llangefni a place in the NEWFA Challenge Cup semi-finals.
It was a first-ever win for Cefni against Bangor, the Anglesey side having lost all four previous meetings with the Citizens.
With Town playing in the Tier 3 North Wales Women’s League West and their opponents operating in T2 Genero Adran North, this was quite a scalp for the islanders.
The early goal came as a result of Bangor getting caught trying to play out from the back.
The 17-year-old Jones pounced for goal number 21 in a season which has seen her score in all nine appearances for her side to date.
After the match, Bangor coach Aron Griffith said: “A very tough one for us to take. I think it took us 35 minutes to get into the game as we started off very slow and disorganised.
“I think it was a tale of two halves as Llangefni pressed us well in the first half to force the mistake. In the second half we had a bagful of chances on goal, but even if we were there all night I don’t think we would have scored – that’s our luck this season.
“Take nothing away from Llangefni who put their bodies on the line to keep that ball away from their goal in the second half . I wish them all the best in the next round of the cup and also in the league .
“It’s all about us looking to get back stronger for Sunday’s league match now (at Llanfair) and switching on from the start.”
