ARDAL NORTHERN LEAGUES ROUND-UP – OCTOBER 14

ARDAL NORTH WEST

CPD Y Rhyl 1879 2 Llay Welfare 0

A sixth straight league win for Rhyl 1879 gave them a four-point lead at the Ardal North West summit.

Last Saturday’s 2-0 triumph at Belle Vue for the Lilywhites was revenge for a 3-0 League Cup defeat at The Ring on September 9.

Prior to the match came the announcement that manager Gareth Thomas had secured the signature of experienced goalkeeper Ryan Woods from Caernarfon Town.

Thomas said: “Once we became aware of Ryan’s availability it was a no-brainer to bring him to the club. He’s another local lad who will increase competition in the squad.”

Saturday’s game saw James Cairns slot the ball home for the hosts in just the third minute.

The visitors controlled the middle stages of the first half, threatening in the final third on numerous occasions, but unable to find the leveller.

Rhyl finished the half with chances to extend their lead, but it was not to be.

Opportunities were far and far between in the second half, before from the 70-minute mark, Llay turned up the heat, but home keeper Sam Thomas made two fantastic saves within a minute.

Thomas later crucially produced a great stop with his feet to deny the visitors.

Finally, with 85 minutes played, Rhyl sealed it.

Macauley Taylor latched on to a long ball chased closely by visiting captain and central defender Max Peate.

Following contact between the two players in the box the referee pointed to the spot.

Experienced forward Mark Roberts slotted home to clinch the points.

Next up is another difficult assignment for Rhyl 1879 this Saturday away to Llangefni Town.

Conwy Borough 3 CPD Pwllheli 1

Great result for Boro with goals from Anthony Marshall (2) and Ray Knight clinching he points against Pwllheli, who replied via Ashley Ainsworth.

Dylan Summers-Jones was on target twice as Hotspur racked up their best result in a while.

Jack Walsh and substitute Shay Murphy also found the net for the home side.

Bethesda had manager Mark Hughes red-carded after the full-time whistle.

Saltney Town 1 Llangefni Town 1

John James King’s excellent 77th minute equaliser rescued a deserved point for the Bordermen at the Dragon Steel Stadium.

Matty Jones had earlier given Llangefni a 64th minute lead.

It was a mixed day for Carruthers, who was shown a red cards in the 66th minute.

Dolgellau Athletic 5 Penycae 2

The unstoppable Gerwyn Williams netted four times to make it 17 goals for the season and 13 in his last six matches for victorious Dolgellau.

Paul Lewis also found the net for the hosts at Cae Marian, captain Zac Davies with a consolation pair for Penycae.

Llangollen Town 0 Llandrindod Wells 2

Three points for the visitors secured by goals from Richard Powell and Kieran McCarley, both in the first half.

Penrhyncoch 3 Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant 0

The evergreen Geoff Kellaway bagged all three goals for new East leaders Penrhyncoch – and could also afford the luxury of a missed penalty.

The 37-year-old former Welsh Premier star with Aberystwyth Town is now on seven goals for the campaign.

Llanrhaeadr were totally up against it after Gruff Evans was shown a 26th minute red card.
