After scoring 20 goals in their first two games Llandudno had to settle for one on Sunday – but it was enough to beat Bangor in a close-fought Adran Trophy battle at Nantporth Stadium.
Stevie Donougher, who was Bangor’s top-scorer last season, made it nine goals in three games for her new club with the 39th minute decider.
The Australian net-machine sent a tidy finish into the right-bottom corner to give Tudno the lead in the latter stages of the first half.
With Sofie Owen outstanding at the back for the hosts, Bangor’s scoring chances were often limited.
At the other end, it was almost 2-0 early in the second half when good work from Donougher set up Maddie Williams, whose shot was well-saved by former Seasiders keeper Becca Elliott.
Following the match, Bangor coach Aron Griffith had this to say: “I’ve mixed emotions about the match. On one hand I’m extremely happy with how we played today, passing the ball well, creating a lot of chances and pushing an in-form Llandudno side all the way till the end.
“On the other hand, I’m gutted for the girls that we didn’t get anything out of the match, They deserved something today, we had plenty of chances to score but couldn’t and that’s the story of our season so far.
“Each game we’re growing in confidence and getting used to the physical and fast-paced side of tier 2 play. To build on every game is a win for us as a coaching staff and it’s going to be an exciting match playing Airbus in the Welsh Cup next weekend.”
