JD CYMRU NORTH – REPORT FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 8

Denbigh Town 2 (Worrall 57, Fleming 87)
Airbus UK Broughton 0

Denbigh produced their best performance since returning to the Cymru North and shattered leaders Airbus’ 100 percent record which stood at five straight wins before last night.

Last season’s Ardal North West champions Town lost three of their first four matches in tier 2 before stopping the rot with a narrow 1-0 victory at Chirk on August 28.

Since then, Dewi Llion Jones’ side have dished out a 6-2 caning in the league cup to a Buckley Town outfit which beat them 3-0 a month earlier in the Nathaniel MG, and now have seen off the mighty Wingmakers in front of more than 350 supporters at Central Park.

Friday evening’s success lifts Denbigh up to sixth in the table. while Airbus lost top spot on the night to Holywell Town.

Manager Jones handed starts once again to Josh Lock, a hat-trick hero in the demolition of Buckley, while Worrall also kept his place following a return from injury.

In sweltering conditions, the first chance came on nine minutes as Airbus attacker George Peers broke down the middle before slamming the ball against the inside of Aaron Jones’ left post.

Chances were at a premium and following a short water break Peers once again could only find the woodwork with another effort.

Denbigh finally carved out a chance in the opening period with three minutes to spare before the break.

Craig Pritchard did well down the left before crossing for Ben Lockley, but his header was deflected out for a corner that came to nothing.

Half-Time: 0-0

Though it was Airbus that dominated large spells in the first half, Denbigh began brightest in the second and broke the deadlock on 57 minutes.

Worrall received the ball from the right and curled a beauty into the top right corner leaving the goalkeeper stranded.

Denbigh did not rest on that lead, and chances continued to flow through Tom Weir, who picked the ball up in the middle of the Airbus half, drifted left and had a strike saved well by Keighan Jones.

Ryan Kershaw almost opened his account for the club on 70 minutes when his rasping effort from 25 yards was palmed away.

Heading into the final 10 minutes the game was on a knife edge, but when Town captain Paul Fleming was introduced his experience and fitness shone through.

With four minutes to play, Fleming received the ball from Lock on the left of the box and smashed low into the bottom right to double the advantage.

A third win on the bounce for Denbigh, who are now really starting to motor.

If the new boys had not quite announced their arrival in the Cymru North loud and clear yet, they certainly did so when they downed the Wingmakers on Friday night.
