Shropshire County Cricket League – resurgent Chirk 2nd XI dish out another thrashing

Dale Randall made useful runs for Chirk seconds in their win over Sentinel 3rd XI

SHROPSHIRE COUNTY CRICKET LEAGUE – REPORTS, SEPTEMBER 2

DIVISION ONE

Lilleshall 1st XI (20) 155-5 Chirk 1st XI (4) 153-10

Chirk simply did not make enough runs to trouble winners Lilleshall in Saturday’s Division One clash.

Put into bat, the North Wales side were bowled out for 153 in 40.4 overs, Wynn Jones leading the scoring with 40, Mark Shaw adding 30 and opener Oliver Gough 29.

Ian Dawes snapped up 3-18 and Thomas Mackriel 3-33 for the hosts, who then went on to make 155-5 in 38 overs to seal a 20-4, five-wicket victory.

Opener Mackriel stood out with his 88 not out, while for Chirk, Jonathan Phillips gathered a tidy 3-27 and Andrew Swarbrick bagged 2-23.

DIVISION EIGHT

Chirk 2nd XI (24) 189-10 Sentinel 3rd XI (5) 80-10

Chirk seconds continued their tremendous end-of-season resurgence by completing back-to-back wins and moving a place up to fourth after thrashing new bottom side Sentinel 3rd XI.

Asked to bat at Holyhead Road, the hosts were all out for 189 off 38 overs, Rob Williams posting 43, Dale Randall 31 and extras amounted to 42.

Sentinel were then blown away for 80 despite a battling 50 from opener Paul Evans.

Rhys Evans snared 5-25 off seven overs, Martin Wright collected 3-25 and Chris Hughes 2-19.
