Felinheli began their league campaign with a well-earned three points at former North Wales League title rivals Llanfair.

However, it was no walk in the park. with Felin having a setback in the warm up through Beca Williams’ injury. Ceri Hickey came in, a promising young talent, and slotted into midfield.

A very organised Llanfair team frustrated Felin in the first 20 minutes with the visitors unable to find their rhythm.

On the 17-minute mark the travellers did break the deadlock with a very composed finish from Nel Huws.

Some nice work down the right through Shannon Jones created space for Fflur Williams, who was playing up top with Catrin Evans slotting into the No 10 role.

As usual, Fflur Williams used that space well to release the onrushing Huws who had made a clever under-lapping run and she placed the ball into the corner from just outside the box.

Slowly but surely Catrin Evans started to take the game by the scruff of the neck and released Jordanne Greenough down the right.

A bit of fortune from a ricochet sent Greenough through on goal and there was no luck involved with the finish, rounding the keeper and slotting home to make it 2-0 at half time.

Manager Aaron Jones-Evans made two changes at the interval, Erin Gibbard coming off at right back replaced by the experienced Llio Emyr and Hickey leaving the action with the returning Anest Roberts entering the midfield.

These changes with so much experience coming in changed the game completely; it went from a very competitive, scrappy at times game to Felin being in charge and running the show.

Chances after chances came Felin’s way with Shannon Jones missing two one-on-ones through some great last-ditch goalkeeping from Ffion Davies.

Huws crashed against the bar from all of 35 yards and Catrin Evans fired two shots narrowly wide after some great build up play involving Hana Wellings.

Shannon Jones

Felin were in full flow by now and on 55 minutes Shannon Jones made it 3-0 from an exquisite assist by Greenough. Three minutes later Shannon Jones made it 4-0 from a lovely lay off by Fflur Williams, thundering her finish into the top corner – Shannon the Cannon strikes again!

Winning manager Jones-Evans said: “It was an acid test today, Llanfair is always a tough game especially at home and it took us a while to settle into the game.

We gave valuable experience to our younger players and when the game needed to be put to bed our experienced players took over.

“We had a lot of players missing today, Ffion Williams, Jenna Tugwell-Allsup and Jody Cain just to name a few, but our squad has strength in depth this season and it’s wonderful to see players competing for their places.

“The return of Anest Roberts is a massive boost for everyone at the club, not only for her character in the changing room but for her quality on the field. We are so happy to have two women who have been a part of this club for years in Catrin Evans and Anest Roberts back at the club to help us move forward and try and achieve as much as we can this season.

“We will not get carried away, it’s one game and we will keep working hard and making sure this team gel together and making sure our performances improve week in week out.”
