North Wales Women’s Football League lose a team on eve of 2023-24 season

Corwen have pulled out of the North Wales Women’s Football League on the eve of the 2023-24 season.

This leaves both the East and West divisions down to seven teams apiece.

Corwen were due to host Denbigh Town on Saturday, but the Edeyrnion club’s director of football Ian Evans told Grassroots North Wales a player shortage had caused the team to resign before a ball is kicked.

“The reason is numbers,” said Ian. “We know we could probably go ahead, but we would be travelling with a team struggling to put 11 out there each week.

“Deeply disappointed about this, but it’s a tough age group to keep everyone committed with girls heading off to uni.

“Several of the squad have trained with Denbigh and hopefully will stay involved and make them a much more competitive team this season.”

The league now has 14 teams.
