REPORTS FROM THE FAW TROPHY FIRST ROUND NORTHERN SECTION
(games not featured here will already have been covered in depth on Saturday/Sunday by Grassroots North Wales)

FAW AMATEUR TROPHY ROUND ONE

Bontnewydd 1 Llanfairpwll 4

A fantastic turnaround of the form book from a Llanfairpwll side which thrashed Bontnewydd by the same score they had lost to them in the league just three weeks earlier.

Back on August 4, it finished 4-1 to Bont in a North Wales Coast West Division One clash versus ‘Pwll at Cae Stanley.

Three weeks later, Llanfair could have been forgiven for feeling a little trepidation at the prospect of returning to the same ground in the Trophy, but Gwyndaf Hughes’ men were certainly not overawed in Saturday’s rematch.

Yet the early signs were not so good for the islanders, as Sion Kelly handed Bont an eighth minute lead.

However, Llanfair soon hit back, Carwyn Roberts producing one of three assists on the day as he set up Cian Glyn Owen to make it 1-1 after 17 minutes.

It was 1-1 at half time, but just past the hour, ‘Pwll edged in front when Jamie Patterson finished off a John Jones assist.

This proved a real boost for the Anglesey side, who introduced striker Marquis Holland as a substitute which gave the visitors even more impetus.

And on 79 minutes, Holland made it 3-1, Carwyn Roberts again involved.

Ieuan Parry was red-carded for the home team on 85, then deep into injury time, man of the match Cian Glyn Owen notched his second goal to clinch a tremendous win for the away team.

Caerwys 3 Connah’s Quay Town 3 (Town won 4-2 on pens)

Quite a contest at Lon-yr-Ysgol where both teams scored three goals apiece inside the first 35 minutes, but ended up having to settle matters on penalties, with Connah’s Quay the successful side.

Brandon Jones gave Caerwys a fourth-minute lead, but the two Kyles, Reid and Amos, netted on seven and 15 minutes respectively to put Quay ahead.

Harry Roberts made it 2-2 after 17, Jordan Hensel put the Deesiders in front again on 34, but a minute later a Mathew Gilsenan penalty levelled matters up again.

No more goals and it was Quay who triumphed 4-2 on spot-kicks.

FC Queen’s Park 17 Johnstown 0

Portuguese Edgar Lima Teixeira was the star of the show with five goals as Queen’s Park eased through to the next round.

Harley Steel hit four for the Park, Tony Jones struck twice, as did Andrew Hughes, and the rest of goals came from Jack Hanley, a Chris Davies own goal, plus one apiece from subs Dylan Jones and Ryan Lancelotte.

Gaerwen 4 Talysarn Celts 12

A dozen goals on the road for Talysarn Celts, Glyn Hughes-Thomas notching five, Luke Baum three, Jac Pearce Jones two, Jack Usher and Tom Williams one each, Nathan Moore and Calum Thomas netting two apiece for Gaerwen

Lex XI 4 Castell Alun Colts 0

Ricky Evans presents Kian Davies (right) with his man of the match award

A strong night for Lex in the Trophy with the outstanding Kian Davies named man of the match.

After a slow start the golds got into their stride and it was that man again Nicky Chesters who opened the scoring with a top corner finish.

Kian Davies yet again showed what a signing he has been as he took the ball through four men to double the lead with a class finish.

His strike partner Fin Dyer showed what a handful he can be on his day, scoring the third after a fantastic assist by Tom Huxley to give the Law a comfortable lead going into the break.

In the second half, the hosts took the foot off the gas but when Kian Davies was brought down in the box, Ricky Evans dispatched the penalty to make the game safe.

Llandudno Amateurs 6 Llysfaen 2

Four days after losing 5-0 at The Oval in a league game, Llysfaen hinted they could fare much better in the Trophy when James Roberts gave them an 18th minute lead.

However, a Mike Chapman double, one a penalty, made it 2-1 Amateurs at half time.

Eight minutes into the second half, James Fallas equalised for Llysfaen and it looked to be truly game on.
Llandudno needed to up a gear in the final 20 minutes to clinch the tie.

Azz Rogers, a Chapman spot-kick to complete his hat-trick and a Lennon Williams goal made it all but safe for the hosts, before Jordan Tidswell added another.

Llanystumdwy 4 Llannerchymedd 3

Not a bad start at all for new Llanystumdwy manager Sion Parry – victory over higher-placed opposition in the FAW Trophy!

Even better is the fact they fought back from three-down to celebrate a notable win.

Math Roberts, Owen Pritchard, Darren Parry and James Hughes all registered on the scoresheet for the tier 5 hosts, James Burgess, Callum Roberts and Cai Miller putting the Medd three-up inside 15 minutes.

Mountain Rangers 1 Trearddur Bay 4

Justin Williams (2), Marcus Bell and Jay Gibbs shared the goals as Trearddur Bay moved into round two fairly comfortably.

Dewi Cooke responded for tier 5 underdogs Rangers, who had Rhys Jones red-carded on 43 minutes.

Penyffordd Lions 1 Ruabon Rovers 3

Jimmy Jones struck twice and Leighton Kendrick once in a fine win for Ruabon, Jack Pyke-Jones with an injury time consolation for the Lions.

Rhos United 8 Rhyl Dragons 3

Phemmy Allison netted four times in the FAW Trophy

Phemmy Allison was a four-goal hero and Chris King a three-goal star in an emphatic win for Rhos at Brookfield Drive.

Alec Jones also found the net for the hosts, but the Dragons gave it a good go, replying through Kev Gorry, Darryl Smith and Adam Cassidy.

Rhostyllen 1 Mynydd Isa 1 (Rhostyllen won 3-1 on pens)

It went to penalties at The Rec, with Rhostyllen coming out on top.

Hari Gould nudged the hosts in front on five minutes, but Iwan Rogers levelled after 12 and there were no further goals until the end of the 90.

The penalty shoot-out featured lots of saves/misses, with the home team eventually scraping through 3-1.

Rhuddlan Town 3 NFA 4

A really great battle put up by an improving Rhuddlan team against North Wales Coast East Premier Division leaders NFA.

Antonio Jacovelli, Jordan Bellham, against his former club, Lewis Evans and Jay Whitehouse (penalty) ensured NFA squeezed their way into the next stage, Ellis Trubshaw (2) and Ben Smith running the home team close.
