FAW AMATEUR TROPHY ROUND ONE

Meliden 2 (Ross 50, Terry 63)
CPD Cerrigydrudion 0

Two second-half goals ensured Meliden recorded a morale-boosting FAW Trophy victory over an in-form Cerrigydrudion side.

Having lost two games on the bounce, the hosts needed a tonic and delivered it in fine fashion at The Mine.

This was a fiercely-contested fixture between two sides which compete in the tier 4 North Wales Coast East Premier Division.

Meliden were looking for redemption after a bad 5-2 loss at Rhuddlan on Tuesday.

Player-manager Woz Adam started for The Miners, while new face Kai Wallis made his debut.

The passing from the home side was exceptional for a good 85% of the game. They did slack off in the last 10 or so minutes, but these things happen when the game is not far from won.

Goals came from Macauley Ross and Jonathan Terry. Ross also had a penalty saved in the 52nd minute by Cerrig stopper Ynyr Roberts.

The deadlock was broken five minutes into the second half.

Frankie Davies managed to get forward through some good passing and was able to find Ross, who composedly hit his shot from just outside the box, the ball finding the bottom-right corner.

Ross had the penalty kept out two minutes later, but just past the hour Terry headed home the decisive second.

In fairness to Cerrig, they played well and had opportunities, but Meliden took theirs better on the day.
