After three straight defeats and a heavy loss in the Welsh Cup last weekend, Rhuddlan Town bounced back in magnificent style to claim their first league win of the season with a 5-2 home beating of local rivals Meliden on Tuesday night.

Town set up well from the get go, preventing the opposition from playing their desired precision football.

Macca Lewis clattered the bar with a 25-yard screamer before getting the breakthrough goal on 31 minutes that put the hosts in front.

Jack Murray provided the assist, Meliden keeper Elijah Beattie unable to hold onto the ball and Lewis applied the finish.

In the 38th minute, Andy Booker played a free kick into the box which Beattie again could not grasp and Lewis was there to pounce for his second.

Rhuddlan set up the same after the break before making a couple of substitutions, Barry Roche and Ryan Gordon coming on for Lewis and Alex Davies.

Just past the 70-minute mark, Isaac Hall, who had been a menace all game, added a third for the home team.

Taking on players at will, Hall soon added another for his double and with 90 on the clock, Roche set up Gordon to make it 5-0.

In added time, Meliden bagged two consolation goals, Matty Griffiths with the first, but this was Rhuddlan’s night.

A great all-round performance from the hosts, with Cole Shone, Hall and Harvey Gordon outstanding. It was also a first league win for new manager Phil Peabody.
