North Wales Women’s Cricket League – Colwyn Bay are crowned West Division champions

Colwyn Bay are the 2023 West Division champions

Colwyn Bay have finished top of the North Wales Women’s Cricket League West table for 2023.

They will now meet East champions Northop Hall in the regional final this Sunday, August 20, at St Asaph.

Last Sunday saw six matches played to round off the West campaign.

REPORTS – WEST LEAGUE

Colwyn Bay (16 pts) 102-2 – net score 292
Llandudno Fire (4 pts) 76-4 – net score 256

Llandudno Fire 2023

Put into bat, Bay chalked up 102-2 off their 16 allotted overs, Hannah Kennedy scoring 16, Sammy Sherrington 15 and Chloe Jones 13.

In reply, Fire posted 76-4, Erin Marlor 19 (once out – net 14), Chloe Jones 2-2 for Colwyn.

Colwyn Bay won by 36 runs

Colwyn Bay (20) 140-0 – Net score 340
Menai Bridge (0) 6-11 – Net score 151

Jane Smith hit 32, Hannah Kennedy 22, Chloe Jones 17 and Charlotte Bennett 12 as Bay amassed 140 without losing a wicket.

Sammy Sherrington took 4-8 as Menai Bridge ended on 6-11, Kennedy 2-10 and Sue Wolfendale 2-13.

Bethesda (3) 64-10 – net score 214
Llandudno Originals (19) 119-3 – net score 304

West runners-up Llandudno Originals

Laura Lambe (18), Erin Deering (12) and Hannah Thornton (13 – once out net 8) top scored as runners-up Originals reached 119-3 off 16 overs, Manon Briggs 2-15 for Pesda.

Bethesda finished with 64-10, Thornton 3-8 and Amelia Andrew 2-13.

Conwy Celts (1) 43-2 – net score 233
Llandudno Originals (15) 117-1 – net score 312

Laura Lambe made 24, Hannah Thornton 23 and Hannah Jones 10 as the Originals piled up 117-1 off 16.

Celts could only muster 43-2 in reply, Thornton 2-2 for Llandudno.

Conwy Celts (18) 96-3 – net score 281
Bethesda (3) 54-12 – net score 194

Much improved batting from Celts saw them total 96-3 off 16 overs, skipper Llinos Hill leading the way with 19.

Bethesda lost 12 wickets for just 54 runs, meaning they lost by 87 runs. Llinos Hill scooped 3-3, Emma Leighton-Jones 2-8 and Abbey Young 2-10.

Llandudno Fire (16) 96-6 – net score 266
Menai Bridge (5) 67-6 – net score 237

Erin Marlor was highest contributor with 19 (once out – net 14) as Llandudno Fire notched up 96-6 off their 16 after being invited to bat.

Bridge were limited to 67-6, Emma Jones 3-7 and Lauren McMillan 2-6 for winners Fire.

EAST LEAGUE

August 16

Northop (4) 67-7 – net score 232
Buckley (16) 87-5 – net score 262
Buckley won by 30 runs

Inserted by the opposition, Buckley set a score of 87-5, Sarah Sprowell 19, skipper Debbie McManus 12 and Alison Royle 15 (once out – net 10).

Ann Roberts claimed 2-12 for Northop, who were then limited to 67-7, Lauren Jones 14 (once out – net 9), Debbie McManus scooping 2-8, Casey Murray 2-12 and Lesley Mayers 2-17.

August 15

Halkyn (3) 77-4 – net score 257
Buckley (15) 97-1 – net score 292
Buckley won by 35 runs

Sarah Sprowell made 15, Debbie McManus 14 and Danielle Sawrey 10 as Buckley chalked up 97-1 from their 16 allotted overs.

In response, Halkyn managed 77-4, Adele Perfect making 10, Sawrey collecting 2-14.

August 13

Halkyn (14) 91-1 – net score 286
Northop (3) 85-2 – net score 275
Halkyn won by 11 runs

Rachel Sumner and Jennifer Davies both scored 11 in Halkyn’s effort of 91-1.

Northop hit back with 85-2, Jane Williams 10.
