NORTH WALES COAST EAST LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION REPORTS – SATURDAY, AUGUST 12

Abergele 0 Meliden 2

Promoted Abergele were beaten by a strong Meliden outfit in the home side’s first game at Eirias Park.

The visitors took the initiative and claimed a 38th minute lead when new signing Frankie Davies scored following a quickly-taken Callum Herd free kick.

Gele went close a couple of times in the first half, striker Simon Roberts hitting the frame of the goal.

Abergele were still on the front foot for the majority of the second half, with Ben Knight and Frankie Hennigan having the pick of the chances.

However, Meliden managed to snatch a second goal late on through sub Liam Astley to put the game to bed.

A solid first effort at tackling Tier 4 football by Gele against a good Meliden side, mired only by not taking their chances and being clinical enough in the final third.

Bro Cernyw 0 Mochdre Sports 2

Goals from Jordan Taylor and Josh Grimshaw sealed the points on the road for Mochdre.

The first half was a grim affair, with the only clear chances falling to Bro, but keeper Nic Bould saved the day, rushing out of his goal to tackle a runaway striker and claiming everything crossed into the box.

Within 10 minutes of the second half, Mochdre found themselves two goals up after a Scott Brown missile long throw was flicked on at the near post and new signing Taylor finished neatly into the corner.

Grimshaw scored a bullet header from near the penalty spot after good work from Ste Falvey down the wing.

Mochdre saw the last 30 minutes out quite comfortably, with the odd half chance falling to either side.

Man of the match for the visitors was Kai Davies.

Kinmel Bay 3 Llansannan 2

Ten-man Kinmel Bay survived a late fightback from Llansannan to hang on for the points.

Oliver Gray got the ball rolling for the home side with a fifth-minute goal from a Connor Morris assist.

Gray then turned provider to set up Paddy Hamid for the second goal after 27.

On the stroke of half time, last season’s top-scorer Morris was red-carded, increasing the possibility of a tricky second period for the hosts.

Things looked good, however, for Bay when Gray made it 3-0 after just a minute of the restart, Mason Richards assisting.

The score was unchanged until the 71st minute when Gruffudd Roberts gave Sannan hope.

Adam Gage added a second for the visitors two minutes from time, but they could not deny Kinmel the first-day victory they craved.

Llandudno Junction 0 NFA 5

Newly-promoted NFA began their tier 4 campaign in style with a 5-0 success at Llandudno Junction.

Antonio Jacovelli, Chris Durkin and James Stead all struck in the first half for the Rhyl-based visitors.

Jacovelli and Stead added second-half goals.

Penmaenmawr Phoenix 2 Llandyrnog United 0

Mike Williams scored on his league debut for Penmaenmawr, who also benefited from a Thomas Montgomery own goal.

This match was reported on in detail by Grassroots North Wales on Saturday,

Rhuddlan Town 0 Cerrigydrudion 3

Ilan Roberts, Tomos Jones (pen) and Llion Thomas grabbed the goals on 4, 84 and 87 minutes respectively that clinched a win for visitors Cerrig.

The away side set up better than Rhuddlan and simply appeared to want it more.

Town were continually caught out by long balls over the defence or down the wings.

The hosts were fortunate Cerrig failed to score more as the visitors had numerous chances.

Nearest call for Rhuddlan was a late Macca Lewis effort which came back off the bar.

Free date: Llanfairfechan Town.
