Ardal Northern: West – Rhyl 1879 up to second after win, Nantlle stay top following draw

Adam Hold is proving to be a great new signing for Rhyl 1879.

The left-winger scored for the third game in a row tonight as the Lilywhites moved up to second in the table with a 2-0 victory at newly-promoted Llannefydd.

When both these teams were in the tier 4 North Wales Coast East Premier two seasons ago, Rhyl had to settle for two draws against Gwyndaf Pritchard’s side in an undefeated league campaign, so this evening’s result was a commendable one.

Hold, who arrived at Belle Vue from Llandudno Albion, where he was also a consistent scorer over a number of seasons, is settling in well for Gareth Thomas’ men.

Rhyl took a 13th minute lead when defender and captain James Jones finished from short range.

A free kick from just outside the box by Hold was whipped keeper Dylan Jones’ side and he parried it back into danger where James Jones toe-poked the rebound in the top corner.

The second goal on 56 minutes saw the ball worked well down the right hand side where Chris Bennett found himself in space and crossed to the back post to Hold, who connected sweetly on the volley, giving the keeper no chance.

Kian Thomas scored the only goal of the game for a Brickfield side missing several players but who worked hard to earn the three points.

Thomas found the net in the 71st minute for the Clwyedog Park hosts.

Llanrwst United 1 (Doran 60)
Nantlle Vale 1 (Williams 51)

Although Nantlle’s 100 percent record was ended, the draw they achieved at Parc Gwydir was enough to keep them top of Ardal North West.

Six minutes into the second half, Sion Williams edged Vale in front, but on the hour Leon Doran levelled, smashing home after a Chris Beardmore lay-off.

The Rwsters suffered a late blow when striker Callum Parry was sent off for a second yellow card.

Conwy Borough 1 (Carey 42)
CPD Y Felinheli 2 (G John 44, 70)

Gruff John, arguably Y Felinheli’s most famous all-time player, showed why he is such an asset to the club as he netted both goals in a superb win at Y Morfa tonight.

John struck after 44 and 70 minutes after Conwy had taken a 42nd minute lead through Isaac Carey.

Llanuwchllyn 2 (Evans 2, Owen 40)

Sam Evans and Will Owen provided the first-half goals which booked three points for visitors Llanuwchllyn at Cae Marian.

Evans netted after just two minutes, Meilir Williams with the assist.

In the 40th minute Evans turned provider, setting up Owen for number two.

Liam Pickstock and Jack Harris notched a double each for the home side, Chris Aitken and sub George Durrell with singles, Richard Litchfield and Ethan Kinsey supplying consolations for rock bottom Welshpool.
