Celebrating 11 highlights from Sion Edwards’ football career

SION EDWARDS – 11 CAREER HIGHLIGHTS FOR A RENOWNED NUMBER 11
Hat-trick for Bangor City v Aberystwyth Town (1/9/2012)
Edwards’ hat-trick was the main feature of a glowing first half-display from City which saw them go 6-1 up at Nantporth.
The best of the trio saw the winger produce a fantastic dipping volley over keeper James Wood as he was running away from goal. Any player in the world would have been proud to score it.
Stunning winner for Porthmadog in 5-4 thriller at Rhyl (2017-18)
Sion’s first goal for Porthmadog – and what a goal!
A Cymru Alliance mudbath at Belle Vue stood at 4-4 when in the 80th minute, Sion let fly from all of 45 yards, slipping on his backside in the process, but experiencing the joy of seeing his phenomenal lob beat Rory Crowther in the home goal and find the net,
Two goals on Bangor City debut v Cefn Druids (2006-07)
A 19-year-old Edwards made his WPL debut for Bangor as a late substitute against Druids at Farrar Road and marked the occasion with a double, his first goal a corking drive from the edge of the box.
Three goals in a 7-0 thrashing of Connah’s Quay Nomads (2007/08)
With Neville Powell now in charge, Edwards began the 2007/08 season on fire and this was typified by a brilliant hat-trick at Deeside Stadium.
The Citizens won 7-0 against Powell’s old club and one of the highlights was a cracking low drive from Edwards to make it four.
Rare headed goal v Newtown (2007-08)
Sion has not always been renowned for his headed goals, but he nodded in a beauty on this occasion.
Les Davies crossed from the right and the big Robins centre-backs were beaten all ends up as Edwards timed his leap perfectly and headed number two in a 3-0 triumph.
Stunner in 4-0 win at Prestatyn Town (2011-12)
Edwards scored twice for Bangor City on this day at Bastion Gardens in a 4-0 win – and his first was among his very best.
The City cannonball latched onto Lee Idzi’s long clearance down the left to smash a truly unstoppable volley beyond the despairing Jon Hill Dunt and into the far corner.

Welsh Cup winner at Rhyl (2013-14)
One of Sion’s most famous goals for the all-blues.
A blood and thunder Welsh Cup tie at Belle Vue stood at 1-1 when in the 90th minute, Sion drilled a left footed beauty beyond the keeper to send the travelling Citizens into raptures.
Goal in last-ever competitive game at Farrar Road (27/12/2011)
It was fitting that both Sion and Les Davies netted in Bangor City’s last-ever game at Farrar Road in December 2011, the Citizens beating Prestatyn Town 5-3 in front of 2,593.
Goal in Bangor City’s first game at Nantporth (Jan 24, 2012)
Sion and Les were also on the mark in City’s first match at their new home Nantporth, which ended in a 6-1 North Wales Challenge Cup win over Caernarfon Wanderers.
The final that season was also at Nantporth and Sion netted in a 4-1 triumph over Glantraeth.
Goal on Bangor 1876 debut v Amlwch Town (2021-22)
Just as he netted on his Bangor City debut 15 years earlier, Sion also scored on his first appearance for 1876 in a 10-0 pasting of Amlwch.
Play-off promotion glory with Bangor 1876 (2022-23)
Sion was in the 1876 side which won promotion to the tier 2 Cymru North at the first attempt, beating Cefn Albion 4-2 in the Ardal Northern play-off final at Prestatyn.
