Giant-killing 4: Maddock and Hoyle among the heroes as Junction eliminate Llannefydd

Welsh Cup qualifying round one
Llandudno Junction 1 (Maddock 24)
Llannefydd 1 (Appleby 84)
(Junction won 5-4 on penalties)
Junction were on cloud nine after knocking Ardal North West newcomers Llannefydd out of the Welsh Cup on penalties at the Flyover.
The Railwaymen from the tier 4 North Wales Coast East Premier Division started second favourites against visitors who finished runners-up at that level last season to gain promotion to tier 3.
However, a cup upset was in the air for Colin Birtles’ side.
Junction’s new signings all shone on the day, including striker Dave Maddock, who gave the hosts a 24th minute lead.
Maddock formerly played for Llandudno Albion, where he was the only player to score 100 goals before the club disbanded at the end of last season.
Junction certainly benefited from his presence today, the big striker adding plenty of threat to the attack.
It looked like one goal would be enough before Luke Appleby levelled for Llannefydd with six minutes to go.
That meant penalties were needed and new keeper Aaron Hoyle emerged as Junction’s hero in the shoot-out, which the Railwaymen won 5-4 after it went to sudden death.
Successful from the spot for the home team were: Matty Jones, Rob Gore, Steve O’Neill, Harry Kirkham and Dean Roberts.
O’Neill was named man of the match.
