Congratulations to St Asaph Cricket Club – the 2023 Flintshire Knockout Trophy winners.
Despite losing the second leg of their final at Brymbo on Tuesday, Asaph’s 45-run triumph at Elwy Park Grove in the first game five days previously proved sufficient to secure an overall aggregate success.
At Brymbo SSC. Saints won the toss and elected to bat, posting 105-8 off their 20 overs, Duncan Midgley 24, Nathanael Scott and Dan Evans 23 apiece, Sam Aplin taking 3-23 and Mohamed Nilam Jayman 2-20 for the Steelmen.
Brymbo responded with 133-5, Jason Underwood 41, Christopher Taylor 34 and Jayman 25, Mathew Ryan with 2-19 and Danny Ryan 2-29 for Asaph. Both Mathew and Danny celebrated birthdays today (July 24 – Mathew was 28 and Danny 26).
That meant the Wrexham-area hosts won by 28 runs on the evening, but having started the game 45 runs behind, they lost by 17 overall.
In the first leg last Thursday, Saints put Brymbo in and limited them to 112-7, James Claybrook and Jayman 30 apiece, Danny Ryan 3-17 for the hosts.
Asaph hit back with 157-5 from their 20, Nathanael Scott a destructive 66 off 38 balls with eight fours and two sixes, Mathew Ryan 29 and Dan Evans 23, Taylor 2-24 and Gareth Boys 2-56 for Brymbo, who were beaten by 45 runs.
