Brymbo suffered a first league defeat of the season and were replaced at the Premier summit by St Asaph as Northop produced a tremendous performance to win at The Crick.
Winning the toss and deciding to bat, the Flintshire visitors posted 228-8 off 50 overs, Ben Beaver top-scoring with 66 and Matthew Williams adding 49.
Daniel Parry took 2-33 and Joseph Norman 2-43 for the Steelmen.
In reply, the hosts were restricted to 220-9, Connor Davies (63), Jason Underwood (38) and Christopher Taylor (33) ensuring they went close, but not close enough.
Davies and Underwood put on 95 for the fourth wicket and Brymbo seemed to have it in the bag on 171-3, but the rapid dismissal of both signalled the beginning of the end.
It was a captaincy decision from heaven from Northop’s Bart Ryan-Beswick which changed the game.
With wickets needed, the skipper decided to ask glovesman Richard Walker to take off the pads and gloves and come on to bowl.
And Wales NC North cap Walker did the trick, getting rid of Underwood and three others, picking up a match-clinching 4-27 for a jubilant Northop.
The 2021 champions St Asaph claimed top spot in the Premier with a comfortable seven-wicket success at Clappers Lane.
Gareth Goodson grasped a magnificent 5-6 off 4.4 overs as Gresford were bowled out for just 97 in 31.4 overs.
Robbie Prior collected 2-12 and Dan Evans 2-39 for Saints, while opener Wes Evans struck a battling 41 for the hosts.

Halkyn edged home by 17 runs in a tight contest at Pant Newydd.
Jamie Griffiths made 41 and Andrew Watkin 40 in the hosts’ modest effort of 162 all out, Keiran Gilly grabbing 5-20 and Sam Lewis 2-31 for the visitors.
Denbigh could only manage 145 all out in reply, Thomas Schrimshaw 52 not out, while Nathan Roett scooped 4-21, Alex North 2-11 and Griffiths 2-16 for victorious Halkyn.
Skipper Robbie Marshall made the 50th half-century of his senior career during Bangor’s outstanding victory at long-time rivals Menai Bridge.
Marshall hit a crucial 90 in the away side’s formidable total of 273-6 off 50 overs at Tyn-y-Caeau.
Invited to bat by the Bridge, the Citizens made hay, Franco Kasner hitting 84 not out and young opener Ryan Symonds-Mayes a superb 73.
From 6-2, the away side’s total rose to 126 courtesy of a third-wicket stand producing 120 runs between Symonds-Mayes and the long-serving Marshall.
Marshall and Kasner then put on another 83 for the fourth wicket.
Menai’s attack came in for some hammer, Will Blair claiming 2-32 and Iwan Moore 2-45.
In reply, the Anglesey hosts looked doomed at 22-3 and 47-4, but the middle order fought back, skipper Gethin Roberts (55), Mathew Jones (36), Calum Andrews (34) and Robbie Jones (33) pulling the islanders back into the contest.
A ninth-wicket partnership of 51 between Mathew Jones and Iwan Moore (23 no) took the home team to 230-8 and gave them hope, but they had left themselves with too much to do and were all out for 237.
Wales cap Owen Reilly took 3-41, Symonds-Mayes 2-30 and Jonny Wells 2-36 for a Bangor outfit which triumphed by 36 runs and leapt above their neighbours in the table to fourth.
Former skipper Matty Humphreys hit a match-best score of 63 to help guide Mochdre to victory over Mold.
The visitors were put into bat and dismissed for 169 in 47.2 overs, Isaac Allen best with 46, while for the hosts, Aidan Kelly snapped up 4-29, Owen Davies 2-16 and Brad Kielow 2-29.
In response, Mochdre cruised to 174-4 in 36.1, Humphreys’ 63 well-supported by Kielow (47) and Alex Davies (30 no).
John Crane grabbed 2-25 off 10 overs for the visitors, who lost 13-2 on points.
Skipper Alexander Corver put Llandudno on their way to victory with a half-century at Alder Meadow.
Put into bat, Tudno were all out for 163, Corver’s 54 the stand-out knock, while extras totalled 34.
For Pont, Ryan White took 3-16, James Hughes 3-36 and Renacko Belgrave 2-23.
Tom Thornton grabbed 4-30 and Oliver Hughes 4-33 as the visitors bowled out Pontblyddyn for 143, Michael Littler the pick of the home batsmen with 35.
