James Claybrook hit a classy 79 not out as Brymbo advanced to the national quarter-finals of the 2023 Welsh Cricket Cup today at Gresford’s expense.
The visitors won the toss and batted, but found themselves struggling badly on 84-5 before Sam Burke (37 not out) and Tom Crewe (22) put on 59 for the sixth wicket.
Gresford eventually finished on 166-6 off 40 overs, Matthew Thompson earlier making 27 and Daniel Williams 23, that pair combining in a 51 stand for wicket two.
Daniel Parry scooped 2-27 for the Steelmen, Jack Whitley, Will Norman and Christopher Taylor bagging a wicket apiece.
In reply, the North Wales League Premier Division leaders were 79-3 before Claybrook and Mohamed Nilam Jayman (45) put on a match-sealing 82.
Mikey Wright was Gresford’s most successful bowler with 2-38.
Denbigh will host Colwyn Bay in next Sunday’s North Zone 2 Final where the winner will also be rewarded with a late eight spot in the national competition.
