Happy birthday Gemma Thomas (Trearddur Bay)

Trearddur Bay defender Gemma Thomas celebrates her 24th birthday today.
Since Bay joined the North Wales Women’s League two years ago, Gemma has been a key player in the team’s constant improvement, especially in the season just past.
Born on June 11, 1999, the Anglesey girl can play anywhere across the defence, but mainly operates as a left-back or centre-back.
Gemma’s sporting background is exceptional. She has played internationally in a variety of sports. One of her finest feats is winning 33 caps playing basketball for Wales and representing her country in five different European championships.
Gemma has also won national honours at football.

Back in 2013/14 she landed the quadruple with Caernarfon Under-16s – Welsh Cup, North Wales Girls Under-16 League title, the league cup and Darwin Cup.
She played alongside a number of very well known North Wales names in that dream team.
The Cofis squad was: Ffion Williams, Ffion Bee, Leonie Prydderch, Gemma Thomas, Elain Evans, Lois Regan, Chloe Hughes, Awen Pritchard, Danielle Barnfield, Llinos Jones, Alaw Huws, Cara Owen, Nel Huws, Heledd Evans, Catrin Hughes, Rebecca Brown. Managers: Dei Pritchard, Gwynfor Evans.
Lois and Chloe went on to represent Wales on many occasions.

Gemma took a break from football for a few years, but returned when Trearddur Bay formed a ladies team for the 2021-22 season. She has made 22 appearances for the side to date, scoring three goals.

Dad Ali Thomas is a chief inspiration for a player who is aggressive in the tackle, strong in the air and a goal threat at set-pieces.
Anglesey has an ever-growing depth of talent in women’s football and Gemma Thomas is right up there amongst it.
Happy birthday Gemma, have a great summer and a brilliant 2023-24 season.
