Ollie Fellows produced a stunning all-round display as Buckley’s first team celebrated their first victory of the season

NORTH WALES CRICKET LEAGUE REPORTS – MAY 20

DIVISION ONE

Buckley (11) 183-9 Connah’s Quay (4) 174-10

For he’s an Ollie good Fellows
For he’s an Ollie good Fellows
For he’s an Ollie good Fellowwwwws
And so say all of us! 🎶🎶🎵🎵

That must have been the song echoing all over the changing rooms at Lane End after 17-year-old star Ollie Fellows scored 70 runs and took seven wickets in Buckley’s enthralling victory over Connah’s Quay on Saturday.

The teenager produced career best bowling figures and a highest first team score in a scintillating all-round performance.

Bucks were put into bat and set 183-9 off 45 overs, Fellows’ 70 including nine fours and a six, while skipper Louis Parry added 33.

For Quay, Darren Leach took 2-16 and Mali Auty 2-18.

In reply, Fellows went through the visitors’ top half like a knife through butter, claiming six victims which left Quay on 78-7.

Despite the carnage at the other end, opener James Du Toit stayed defiant, making 69 before he was bowled by Fellows, much to the delight of the home players and supporters.

When Du Toit departed, the Deesiders were 130-8, but they kept pushing and had reached 174 – 10 runs from an unlikely victory – before the last man was dismissed, number 11 James Thomas bowled by Tom Pool for 15.

Fellows’ final analysis was nine overs, two maidens, seven wickets for 37 runs. It was a day he will never forget.

Not only was it an afternoon of personal glory for Ollie, the result also represented a first win of the season for Buckley after four defeats.

Abergele (11) 207-10 Northop 2nd XI (4) 188-8

Gele came out on top in a high-scoring encounter at Pentre Mawr Park.

After opting to make first use of the batting strip, the home side chalked up a decent total of 207 all out off 44.5 overs.

Nathan Aldridge topped the runs list with 45, Gareth Edwards made 31 and Ben Garnett 30, Joe Griffiths 3-31 and Andrew Oates 3-32 for the visitors.

Northop seconds were limited to 188-8 in reply, Finn Jenkins 59 not out, David Foulkes 58 and Chris Brooks 27, Gele bowler Lewis Tolond doing early damage with 3-32, Aldridge 2-25 and David Moulson 2-26.

Bethesda (1) 251-2 Llay Welfare (14) 253-3

Fancy scoring 251-2 at home but losing and ending up with just a single point!

That was the unfortunate fate of a Bethesda side who were victims of a stunning transformation by a Llay outfit which began the season with four straight defeats only to explode into form at Parc Villa on Saturday.

Pesda decided to bat first, Richie Parry (102 not out) and Jason Parry (62) putting on a massive 145 for the first wicket.

Number four Nicholas Parry slammed 50 off 32 balls, including three fours and two sixes, as the hosts set 251-2 off 45 overs, Mike Phennah 2-55 for the suffering Llay attack.

Sadly for Bethesda, Welfare’s openers did even better than theirs, Jacob Roberts (114) and David Phennah (68) forming a mammoth stand of 185.

Roberts’ innings comprised 111 deliveries and included 14 fours and three sixes.

From 244-1, Llay lost two quick wickets, but Nathan Humphreys (39 no) led them to the finish line at 253-3 off 42.3.

Conwy (11) 242-6 Dolgellau (4) 233-10

Dolgellau suffered a first defeat of the season as opponents Conwy replaced them at the summit with a thrilling nine-run win at Bodlondeb.

The hosts rattled up 242-6 off 45 overs, Evan Williams (61), Raj Britto (40), Philip Michael Davies (32) and Dan Davies (30) all batting well.

Sam Williams claimed a very economical in the circumstances 2-25 from nine.

Dolgellau gave it a great go in reply, but were dismissed for 233 in the final over.

Sion Francis hit 78 before crucially being run out by Vaughan Williams with the score 230-8.

Opener Jack Williamson added 44, Oliver Barnes 29 and Joe Williamson 25, Tom Plank collecting 4-41 and Vaughan Williams 3-42 for the new table leaders.

Hawarden Park (13) 170-9 Menai Bridge 2nd XI (2) 119-10

Skipper Campbell Marr’s vital 55 inspired Hawarden Park to a 51-run triumph at home to Menai Bridge seconds.

Park won the toss and set 170-9 off 45 overs, Marr’s innings the central effort, while for the visitors Phil Smith bagged 4-31 and Liam Bibby 3-23.

Fabio Franco then poached a tremendous 5-18 off 7.1 as the hosts bowled out the Anglesey side for 119, Luke Robinson a spirited 30 no batting at 10.

Marchwiel and Wrexham (1) 155-9 Gwersyllt Park (14) 159-2

For once Gwersyllt’s master batsman Iroshan De Silva was upstaged as Lewis Cole cracked a match-clinching 75 not out at Marchwiel Hall.

Skipper George Forgrave struck an impressive 77 but was short of profitable partners as Marchwiel and Wrexham were restricted to 155-9 off 43.2.

Ben Griffiths pouched 4-10 and Cole 2-21 for the away side.

In reply, Park dipped to 28-2 but then skipper De Silva (55 not out) and Cole concocted an undefeated stand of 131 as the visitors reached their target in 37.3, Sion Edwards 2-25 for the hosts.

Cole’s knock included 11 fours and two sixes.

What a day of cricket in this division! Runs galore and some amazing bowling.
