Llangefni show once more they can test the best in narrow defeat at second-place Pwllheli

NORTH WALES WOMEN’S LEAGUE – MAY 15
Pwllheli 3 (S Jones pens 2 & 35; Rees-Williams 26)
Llangefni Town 2 (Cox 14 & 73)

Dan Gregg says he and his players cannot wait for Llangefni’s final home game of the season against Denbigh Town on Wednesday night.
Cefni are the most improved team in the North Wales League this term and a point against Denbigh will ensure they finish in the top-five.
The Anglesey side have lost their last two matches, but only by the odd goal against high-flyers NFA and Pwllheli.
Gregg said such losses have shown just as much about the positive mentality of his team as the 12 wins achieved over the campaign.
Manager Gregg commented: “It’s easy to lose perspective of how far this team has come in just two seasons.
“We don’t have any youth teams or under 19’s, we’ve made near enough one signing that is now a regular player.
“Seven players from today’s squad started our first ever game last season, and at this stage in our journey to be mixing it with NFA and teams with years and years worth of experience in Amlwch and Pwllheli is a testament to the work every single person puts in on the training ground week in week out.

“Our last home game of the season is on Wednesday night and we can’t wait.”
Sunday’s trip to Pwllheli started in the worst possible way for the visitors when just seconds in, the home team were awarded a penalty.
Up stepped captain Sioned Jones to smash to Jess Marshall’s right and give the hosts an ultra-early lead.
Llangefni responded well to the setback and for the next 20 minutes will feel like they really threatened Pwllheli.
Town got a deserved equaliser when Catrin George played a lovely ball over the top for Jen Cox to show her blistering pace and bring the visitors level.
Ten minutes later Pwllheli were awarded a corner which saw Sioned Jones whip in a wicked ball for Hayley Rees-Williams to thump a header home and make it 2-1.
In the 35th minute, Pwll were awarded another penalty. Sioned Jones again converted to make it 10 goals in five games and put the hosts 3-1 up at the break.
Llangefni came out for the second half in their usual determined fashion. The game flowed back and forth with Cefni looking more solid.
After 57 minutes Jess Jones replaced captain Nia Ginnelly and made an immediate impact, showing some lovely feet and getting the islanders up the pitch with some great solo runs.
Seventy-three minutes in the youngster showed a sublime touch in the middle of the park, dropped her shoulder to go past an oncoming Pwllheli player and then slipped a delightful ball through for Cox to grab her brace and 26th goal of the season to make for an interesting finish to the game.
Llangefni tried hard for the remainder of the contest but could not find the equaliser.
