Wednesday night football – Pwllheli hit five, Caernarfon draw with Llanystumdwy

NORTH WALES WOMEN’S FOOTBALL LEAGUE – REPORTS MAY 10

Lisa Jones’ 14th goal of the season was not enough to deliver three points for Caernarfon in their last home game of 2022-23.
Both teams scored early, Jones making it 1-0 to the Cofis after four minutes only for captain Hana Wellings to equalise for Llanystumdwy on eight with her eighth goal of the campaign.

There was no further score. Caernarfon had done their homework, knowing Wellings was a threat in midfield and they made sure she was well marked by Sara Williams, Natalie Lovelock and Sioned Bohana.
Llanystumdwy could have scored another, but home goalkeeper Gwenllian Bell-Rennie produced a brilliant reflex save.

Lois Thomas and Bess Roberts scored two goals apiece as Pwllheli made it five league wins on the bounce.
Thomas is now up to 21 goals for the season, 18 in the league, while Roberts made it eight for the campaign.
The win put Pwllheli level on points with second-place NFA, but the fact the Llŷn Peninsula side have played two games less makes them favourites for runners-up.
Thomas opened the scoring on five minutes, then Roberts grabbed a quickfire double on 16 and 17, Magi Hughes and Sioned Jones with the assists.
Elen James Owen pulled one back for Denbigh, but Sioned Jones hit Pwllheli’s fourth on 42 minutes.
There were no additional goals until the 81st minute, Lois Thomas on the mark again, Sioned Jones setting her up.
