NORTH WALES FOOTBALL REPORTS – TUESDAY, MAY 9

NORTH EAST WALES FOOTBALL LEAGUE

Premier Division

Lex XI 4 Castell Alun Colts 5

Daniel Woosey was a hat-trick hero for a Castell Alun side which took the honours at Stansty Park.

In an end-to-end game, Lex were down to 10 men for an hour following the first-half sending off of Finley Dyer for two yellows, giving the Lawmen a mountain to climb.

Great energy and work-rate from a young Casty saw them come back from 3-2 down to take the points.

The Lex goals came from Tom Huxley, Alan Huxley with a great header, an own goal from Reece Jones after another nightmare flag-kick from Tom Huxley and a penalty from Ricky Evans.

Woosey’s treble came on 52, 62 and 68 minutes, Bartosz Kowalski and Elliot Bond the other away marksmen.

Acton 1 Ruabon Rovers 5

An interesting night in the Championship title race saw Ruabon cut the gap on leaders Caerwys to three points with two games in hand.

Rovers extended their unbeaten run in the league to 14 matches – 13 wins – with an emphatic triumph at Acton.

Jimmy Jones (pen), Andrew Swarbrick (2), Conner Kendrick and Mark Jones shared the goals for the visitors, Luke Harrington replying.

Ruabon have three left to play in the league: Johnstown (a), Caerwys (a) and FC United of Wrexham (a).

With a much bigger goal difference than Caerwys, six more points will guarantee them the title.

Caerwys 2 CPD Gronant 2

After 19 league matches leaders Caerwys are still unbeaten, but two points dropped at home to Gronant was a big blow to their title hopes.

Matty Gilsenan and Harry Roberts’ 90th minute leveller from the penalty spot salvaged the draw for Daniel Sands’ side.

Third-placed Gronant hit back through Matty Lewis and Dan Price.
