North Wales Women’s Football League reports – April 30

Amlwch Town 3 Caernarfon Town 1

It is now eight league matches unbeaten for Amlwch – six of them wins – after today’s victory over Caernarfon at Lon Bach.

Despite a string of injuries affecting selection, the Anglesey hosts started strongly against an equally-fierce Caernarfon.

Ellie Jones found the net for the islanders after just four minutes with an incredibly effortless finish.

Amlwch played some lovely football throughout the first half and 25 minutes in Jo Bramwell floated the ball over the defence to find Tesni Hughes, who slotted in bottom left.

Caernarfon continued to battle but Ellie Jones found the net again in the 31st minute.

Keeper Ceri Pritchard hoofed the ball up the pitch and Ellie beautifully lofted over keeper Sara Williams’ head to make it 3-0 at half time.

The second half was much less eventful and Amlwch suffered a few injuries, making the game very bitty, but Caernarfon battled on and broke through the defence to make the final score 3-1, Alaw Parry finding the net.

Player of the match for Amlwch was Emma Roberts.

Denbigh Town 2 Llanystumdwy 3

After six straight league defeats and nine without a win, Llanystumdwy turned the tables with a fine win at Central Park.

A good first half for the visitors, without injured top-scorer Grace Mpuku, saw them lead 2-0 at the break.

Heledd Savage struck in the 15th minute and captain Hana Wellings made it two on 27.

When Wellings added number three four minutes after the break, it looked like Llan were well on course for a first away win of the season, but Denbigh had not given up.

Esra Gunes pulled a goal back on 56 minutes, but just past the hour the same player was shown a straight red card for violent conduct.

Still the 10 players battled on and Eluned Evans cut the arrears to 3-2 with 15 minutes left.

It was a nervous ending for Llan, but they clung on for the three points.

Llanfairfechan Town 0 Northop Hall 4

An emphatic success for the Hall, Brygida Gorecka and Ellen Sharps netting in the first half and Elin Williams and the returning substitute Sarah Massey striking after the break.

Llangefni Town 2 NFA 3

Second-place NFA just about clung on for the three points after being reduced to 10 players late on.

These two shared a 3-3 thriller at Rhyl recently in a game which saw Cefni notch a 99th minute equaliser.

There was a similar finish on Sunday, but this time NFA managed to maintain their lead.

Top-scorer Sade Benjamin’s 27th goal of the season gave the visitors a 24th minute advantage and Rebekah Hansen soon added a second, Banjamin with the assist on his occasion.

It stayed at 0-2 until the 87th minute when Jess Mills was red-carded for the away team for a foul in the box on Jen Cox.

Ffion Thomas converted the penalty for Cefni and it was game on.

A minute into added time, it looked all over when Amy Webster made it 3-1.

However, in the 95th minute Jess Jones reduced the gap to a single-goal again and NFA were glad to hang on for the points in this battle between second and third.

CPD Pwllheli 4 Flint Town United 1

Sioned Jones was a hat-trick hero for a Pwllheli side which kept up their pursuit of runners-up with a win over Flint.

Magi Hughes opened the scoring on 19 minutes for the hosts, then Jones struck on 20, 51 and 63 from the penalty spot.

Kaelyn Williams replied for Flint in the 73rd minute, but that was the end of the scoring.
