Liverpool and District Cricket Competition – perfect start for Prestatyn, no joy for Colwyn Bay or Northop Hall

LIVERPOOL AND DISTRICT CRICKET COMPETITION

1ST XI SECOND DIVISION

Southport (1) 55-10 Prestatyn (20) 56-2

Prestatyn’s first team have begun the 2023 campaign with two impressive victories.

On Saturday, the North Wales side made light work of hosts Southport Trinity.

Sri Lankan all-rounder Sampath Perera claimed a magnificent 5-7 off nine overs as Trinity were bowled out for just 55, having been put into bat.

Shafiqullah Kamal nabbed 2-15 and and Benjamin Hughes 2-17 for the visitors, who then eased to 56-2 in 12.2 for a 20-1 points victory, opener Gareth Leonard making 27.

The previous weekend, Prestatyn overcame the challenge of Irby by 32 runs at Beach Close.

Invited to bat, the Welsh team were dismissed for just 73, Perera top-scoring with 43.

In reply, Wirral outfit Irby were blitzed out for only 41, Kamal 5-11 and Perera 5-12 to secure a 25-5 points success.

Maghull (24) 199-10 Northop Hall (6) 121-10

Northop Hall have dropped into Division Two this year and they will be disappointed to have lost their opening game at Maghull.

The Liverpool outfit were put in and set 199 all out, Renit Adke 4-51 and skipper Carwyn Johnson 4-66 for the away side.

The Hall were dismissed for 121 in reply, Thomas Doggett 32, Greg Coogan 6-49 for the hosts.

The previous Saturday, Northop Hall’s match at home to Alder was abandoned without a ball being bowled – 5 points each.

1ST XI PREMIER LEAGUE

Orrell Red Triangle (24) 204-8 declared Colwyn Bay (6) 130-10

Wicket-keeper Richard Everett’s unbeaten 100 for the home side was the deciding factor in this match.

Inserted by the opposition, Orrell posted 204-8 declared off 55 overs, number three Everett with the starring role, Adam Campion 3-24 and Jack Parry 2-18 for the Bay.

In reply, Colwyn were all out for 130, Will Evans 56 off 48 balls including five fours and four sixes, Naveen Gunawardana 5-44 for the winners.

Colwyn Bay’s scheduled opening match at home to Rainford on April 15 was abandoned without a ball being bowled – each side collected 5 points.
