Young gymnast from Bangor creates history

Macaya Alsop’s supporters cheer her on at the 2020 Artistic British Gymnastics Championships in Liverpool

Bangor Gymnastics Club’s Macaya Alsop created a little piece of history when she walked out to compete in the Women’s Aspire competition at the recent 2023 Artistic British Championships in Liverpool.

In doing so, the 12-year-old became the first women’s artistic gymnast from the Bangor club to compete at the British Championships.

Macaya’s coach Ellie Hill said: “It was such a fantastic experience and, at such a young age to be the first from the club, we couldn’t be more proud.

“We look forward to many more following in Macaya’s footsteps.”
