North Wales Women’s League – captain Ashleigh strikes twice in Trearddur Bay win

Two late goals from the hosts were not enough to prevent Trearddur Bay claiming victory at Parc Dwyfor.
Both sides took a little while to get used to the wet pitch conditions, with possession shared quite evenly in the early stages.
After 10 minutes, Trearddur seemed to get a grip on the game. Their pressure paid off on 15 minutes when Freya Davies brought down a throw-in and dribbled into the box before being taken down by a tackle from behind.
Up stepped captain Ashleigh Jones who placed her penalty in the bottom-left corner.
Bay kicked on from here and created lots of chances, with Sarah Flower and Ashleigh Jones going close.
On the half hour the Anglesey visitors doubled their lead with a powerful finish into the top corner from Ashleigh Jones again – her ninth goal of the campaign.
Llanystumdwy reacted well and saw more of the ball, but Trearddur defended soundly and went into half-time 2-0 up.
After the start of the second half, much of the football was played in the middle of the pitch, with neither team really threatening.
This changed in the 63rd minute when a corner by Hannah Smith caused confusion in the box and Rhian Griffiths pounced on the opportunity to get her name on the scoresheet.
At three-up, Bay took the chance to make some substitutions.
They were in control until the 82nd minute when Llanystumdwy were awarded a harsh penalty for an alleged handball in the area.
Sian-Elin Morgan-Price converted from the spot and this gave the hosts lots of encouragement.
Llanystumdwy pushed on in the last 10 minutes looking for more goals. Their captain, Hana Wellings, who was a threat all game, picked up the ball on the edge of the box and hit a shot that flew over goalkeeper Georgia Magee in the 90th minute.
Bay saw the game out and it finished 3-2 to the visitors.
