A star is born during Colwyn Bay’s league title celebrations
The title of Best Club Mascot in North Wales Football History has to be under threat.
Remember Cecil the Crocodile from Holywell Town – star of the 2014/15 FAW Trophy Final? The only mascot to be sent off in a major football match?
How about the Bangor Eye? The eerie yet fascinating huge eye that kept watch on everyone at the old Farrar Road.
And who could forget Silky the Silkworm, the lovable ambassador for Flint Town United in 2019? I always knew who was beneath the costume, but always kept it a secret.
As for the Rhyl FC pirate who walked the plank at Belle Vue back in the John Hulse era, well I remember the face but sadly not the name.
However, in these current often gloomy times for North Wales football, COLWYN BAY FC put a smile on many faces by introducing their new icon at the weekend.
Making his debut during the club’s Cymru North title celebrations was SANDY THE SEAGULL.
Sandy is a fine specimen, dressed in full Colwyn Bay kit and well groomed, not like some of his windswept chums on the promenade.
Reports confirm Sandy did not steal a single chip or dive-bomb an ice-cream eating child at the Four Crosses Construction Arena on Saturday – all he did was dance and sing.
This character has lots of star potential and would bring some much-needed cheer to the Cymru Premier next season.
Why a seagull? Well, as 99% of football fans will know, Colwyn Bay’s nickname is The Seagulls.
