Meet the new chairman of Llandyrnog United – Mr Jimmy McNally

Jimmy McNally is the new chairman of Llandyrnog United

What should a football club look for in a good chairperson?

To be a fine ambassador for the club, show strong leadership qualities, possess a great sense of humour perhaps?

How about being a club person through and through?

One man ticks all the boxes.

Meet the new chairman of Llandyrnog United – MR JIMMY McNALLY!

Jimmy, 34, has taken over the role at the tier 4 North Wales Coast East Premier Division club from long-serving Clive Jones.

Initially manager of Llandyrnog United Reserves, Jimmy won back to back doubles of Clwyd Reserves Combination Division title and Halkyn Cup in 2011-12 and 2012-13 (first season as assistant to Jamie Palin).

He later had an initial short spell as interim first team boss following the departure of Ryan Harden near the end of 2018-19.

The following two seasons saw Covid do its worst and very little football was played. Jimmy was first-team manager for the 2021-22 season, which saw a restructure of North Wales football and Dyrny compete in the North Wales Coast East Premier.

They finished a respectable ninth out of 14 and were having a steady 2022-23 campaign before Jimmy recently decided to step down

Now he’s back as chairman.

In his first address, he said: “Well ladies and gentlemen, it has been a huge decision of mine to take on the reins of Llandyrnog United FC chairman, and it’s a decision I’ve not taken lightly.

“Having stepped down as manager due to personal reasons, the club offered me time to reflect, but I have felt that I don’t have the time or the right frame of mind to get back on the touchline for the foreseeable future in winter league football.

“The desire to manage may have gone, but my love and passion for the football club will never ever die. I feel I’m at a stage in my life where day to day management is no longer a priority, but I do feel I can still offer this football club something, and as chairman I hope I can bring some much needed support back to Cae Nant, some new fresh ideas, and hopefully some new faces to the committee.”

Jimmy’s father David “Pim” McNally is a former reserve team manager at Llandyrnog. His sister Jordan is a talented footballer and darts player. McNally Jr has supported the Vale of Clwyd village club since he was a very young boy.

“This club should be the heart and soul of the community like it was when I was a child, supporting from behind the bottom goal at Cae Nant,” added Jimmy.

“I want to bring the community back to the club, because we’ve never ever left it, we’re here representing you!

“I’d like to thank Clive Jones for his hard work and dedication over the years, and I’m pleased he’s willing to stay on the committee.

“And I’d also like to give Sion Morris our current manager my full support and backing. He’s working so hard to make this club succeed on the pitch, and I’m glad he’s willing to see the campaign through.

“There will hopefully be some exciting things happening at the club in my tenure, but for now, I just want to see the boys in Dyrny blue play their hearts out, and the community on the touchline roaring them on, like the good old days! “
