Connah’s Quay Nomads have added a player with plenty of Adran Premier experience to their squad.
Renee Day, 25, has already scored five goals in her first two games for Nomads Under-19s in the North East Wales League.
Day previously played her football in South Wales for Pontypridd United and Briton Ferry Llansawe in the Adran Premier, then later for Pontardawe Town and Llandarcy AFC.
She has 50 Welsh Premier/Adran Premier appearances on her impressive record.
Meanwhile, Nomads made sure of a place in the last 16 of the Genero Adran Trophy following a second consecutive group win on Sunday, beating Berriew 3-0 away.
Nomads made a few changes to the starting line up to rotate minutes before the league season starts.
The first 15 minutes were pretty even with both teams getting opportunities.
Nomads grew into the game and new signing Rosie Hughes broke the deadlock on the 20th minute. A great tackle by Lily Manchester resulted in the ball bobbling through to Hughes who slotted home through the keeper’s legs with her left foot.
Shortly after Berriew put a string of passes together and Libby Mackenzie slid in, in the box resulting in a penalty. Gemma Jones struck hard to the right of the goal but Faye Moseley made a brilliant save and Hughes cleared up the rebound.
After this Nomads had the majority of the possession with a couple of quick transitions from Berriew resulting in some last ditch tackles by captain Evie Chard.
In the 43rd minute Mel Barlow saw her chance. From near the halfway line she half-volleyed and beat the scrambling keeper to put the visitors 2-0 up.
Two changes at half time with Aimee Redfern and Seren Cashen coming onto the pitch. Within 5 minutes Nomads had won a free kick to the right of the goal.
A great delivery by Barlow meant it only needed a slight touch by Redfern to bag her first goal of the season.
The rest of the game saw Nomads create a lot of chances but they weren’t as clinical in front of goal.
