Huw Griffiths has released a special farewell message four days after it was announced he and Caernarfon Town had parted company.
Griffiths, 46, said it has been an honour to manage a club he led to two Cymru Premier top-six finishes and back-to-back play-off finals in his three years in charge.
Caernarfon have appointed Griffiths’ assistant since January 2020, Richard Owain Davies, as manager for the rest of the 2022-23 season.
Huw said: “I would like to thank the Board for giving me the opportunity to manage Caernarfon Town FC for the past three years. It has been an honour and privilege to do so and I will always treasure my time with this very special club.
“Stand-out moments have to be the amazing reception the team had when we walked through the town on the morning of the play-off final against Newtown; the fans who erected ladders, peered over fences and on roof-tops during the Covid period; and of course at the beginning of this season the trip up North for our Scottish (Challenge) Cup fixture against Clyde.
“But, along with the good times there have also been lows. Losing to Newtown in the play-off final was heartbreaking and still hurts to this day, and last season despite finishing 4th in the league, Caernarfon’s joint highest ever position, being denied a European spot due to the co-efficiency points, and of course the more recent poor run of results.
“I understand the fans’ frustration with these, and I also respect the Board’s decision to relieve me of my duties as First Team Manager – I understand and accept they have to do what they feel is best for the Club.
“Whilst disappointed not to be able to finish the season off with Town and not to have achieved more together, I’m confident with the Club moving in the right direction Caernarfon Town will soon gain the coveted European spot and there will be lots of celebrations to come!
“So, a big thank you to all of you who have supported me during my time with the Club – the players, management team, volunteers, supporters, Board and especially Paul (Evans, chairman).
“Thank you too, to those of you who have sent me well wishes over the weekend – your kind words mean a lot. There will always be a special place in my heart for Y Dre and of course the Cofi Army!
“All the very best for the future to Fish (Richard Davies) the players and everyone connected with Caernarfon Town.
“Bu’n fraint ac yn anrhydedd bod yn Reolwr ar y Clwb unigryw yma – diolch am y cyfle. Pob dymuniad da i’r dyfodol i Glwb Peldroed Tref Caernarfon ac i bawb yn gysylltiedig â’r Dre!”
