The NWCFA Junior Cup has spent so much time with Anglesey clubs since its inception 128 years ago, Cyngor Sir Ynys Môn would have a fair case to apply for permanent trophy residency.
However, the cup will not be landing on the beautiful isle this season as holders Cemaes Bay were knocked out at the semi-final stage by Llandudno Amateurs on Saturday.
In the final, the Amateurs will take on fellow North Wales Coast East Division One side Abergele, with the venue expected to be Nantporth, Bangor.
A great battle between two very good teams at School Lane on Saturday saw Amateurs fight hard for the win to eliminate the defending champions.
Amateurs started brightly, creating a couple of early chances and had an Azz Rogers goal ruled out for a questionable offside.
Cemaes grew into the game strongly and an excellent defence-splitting pass was finished off by Matt Reynolds to put them 1-0 up after 10 minutes
Amateurs continued push hard and won a corner in the 27th minute. An excellent delivery from Joe Jones was flicked on at the near post by Dave Williams, then finished off coming in at the back post by the outstanding Rogers – his 30th goal of the season.
Carl Nichols and Gaz Sharp’s visiting side kept up the pressure and on 44 minutes Bay keeper Dan Jones allowed the ball to run free, enabling Danny Talbot to anticipate and tap home.
Half-time: 1-2
The second half was one hell of a battle.
Cemaes threw everything at the opposition, the quality of home captain Keenan Downey presenting the most danger, but Amateurs stayed strong and defended well.
Amateurs then caught Bay on the break, with Chris Smyth rounding the on rushing keeper 30 yards out on the angle, but the striker’s effort flew just wide of the post.
The rest of the game saw the islanders relentlessly chase the equaliser, but the away side held on for a famous win.
