CATCH-UP: North Wales Coast West League – Trearddur triumph in battle of Bays, Gwalchmai’s cup revenge

DIVISION ONE REPORTS – MARCH 4

Trearddur Bay 3 Cemaes Bay 1

Last weekend’s battle of the Bays ended in a Trearddur victory which pushed Nick Dumbarton’s leaders five points clear of Cemaes with a game in hand.

Trearddur struck first on 15 minutes when a loose ball in midfield was turned over by Tom Scott and he found Asa Thomas in space.

Thomas delivered a first-time cross to his in-form strike partner Kaine Bentley, who finished sweetly into the bottom right-hand corner,

Four minutes later Cemaes were level when captain Keenan Downey converted a penalty awarded for a challenge on himself.

Dan Jones produced a good save from a Thomas header which ensured half-time arrived with a 1-1 scoreline.

The second half started with a flurry and all the momentum seemed to be with the home side. Midfield pairing Myles Jones and Ry Lees started to pick their passes into the feet of Thomas and Melvin Mcginness.

This caused the visitors all manner of problems and with the lively Bentley running in behind it was only a matter of time before a chance presented itself.

Cemaes were stubborn and dug deep and it was not until the 75th minute when the breakthrough came.

A jinking run forward by left-back Edwards left three Cemaes players in his wake and the ball broke to Dan Mcginness on the opposite side of the pitch.

Mcginness sprayed a delightful 40 yard cross-field ball to Thomas, who directed it across the box for the oncoming Bentley to make it 2-1.

Three minutes later Myles Jones’ reverse pass fell to the feet of lethal marksman Thomas, whose low strike brought him a 41st goal of the season.

It is advantage Trearddur in the title race, but there is still a long way to go and more work to be done.

Bontnewydd 2 Holyhead Town 1

Luke Phillips bagged a 96th minute winner for nine-man hosts Bontnewydd.

Meilir Rowlands put Bont ahead on 32, Callum Queen levelled after 54, then in added time the drama really began.

In 91st minute the home team’s Alex Kalafusz was dismissed for a second yellow card, then moments later Bont’s Matthew Jones was shown a straight red.

But far from feeling sorry for themselves, the hosts chased a winner and Phillips delivered it with 96 on the clock.

CPD Cefni 0 Mountain Rangers 0

Neither side could break the deadlock at Isgraig.

CPD Y Fali 1 Llanfairpwll 0

Rhys Thomas’ 27th minute goal was enough to secure Y Fali maximum points.

A day to forget for Llanfairpwll, who had Marquis Holland sent off for a second yellow on 70.

CPD Gaerwen 2 Llangoed and District 4

A great result on the road for Llangoed, whose goals were supplied by Anthony Williams, Mason Turpin, Mitchell Jones and Laurence Mandel.

Gaerwen trailed 2-0, pulled level with an Alan Mark Owen double on 32 and 36 minutes, but then conceded twice in the second half.

DIVISION ONE CUP

Arriva 1 Bethesda Rovers 1 (Rovers won 5-4 on pens)

Iestyn Marlow coolly converted the winning penalty as Rovers advanced in the cup 5-4 on spot-kicks.

Aron Thomas gave the visitors a 21st minute lead, Dylan Jones equalised on 70 and with no further goals it went to a shoot-out.

Caergybi 2 Llanystumdwy 1

James Ryan’s 80th minute poacher’s effort clinched cup success for Caergybi at Millbank.

Nik Kontodios gave the hosts a 40th minute lead, but Guto Roberts squared the tie on 70.

Cue Ryan to pounce after keeper Elgan Roberts had parried out Kontodios’ volley.

PREMIER DIVISION CWPAN SNOWDONIA FIRE AND SECURITY CUP

CPD Llanberis 0 Gwalchmai 1

Two weeks after losing 6-0 at Ffordd Padarn in the league, Gwalchmai produced an amazing turnaround to beat the same opponents 1-0 in the cup at the same venue.

Connor Owen grabbed the all-important goal on 19 minutes. It was the 17-year-old’s 29th goal of the season.

Llanberis keeper Dylan Roberts was shown a straight red card in the 87th minute.

Llanrug United 3 CPD Mynydd Llandegai 2

Trailing 2-0 to a pair of Ben Parker goals, one a penalty, Llanrug staged a dramatic recovery to win the tie courtesy of Tomi Llywelyn (2) and Osian Williams.

CPD Penrhyndeudraeth 5 Amlwch Town 3

Josh Wilson (3) and Gwion Davies (2) guided Penrhyn into the next stage. Gareth Torr (2) and Joshua Griffiths keeping Amlwch in the hunt.

CPD Pentraeth 0 Talysarn Celts 2

Luke Baum and Aled Jones both netted in the second half to see Talysarn into the next round.

CPD Pwllheli 0 CPD Aberffraw 1

Ifan Owen grabbed the 75th minute goal which meant that once more Aberffraw proved themselves to be among the best cup upsetters in the business.

Second-place in the league, Pwllheli were favourites beforehand, but could not get past a strong away defence.

PREMIER DIVISION

Glantraeth 2 Nefyn United 0

Two goals early in the second half from Steven Jones and Luke Winter booked another three points for Glantraeth.
