CATCH-UP: Ardal North East – Caersws and Cefn Albion march on, joy for Bow Street in League Cup

LOCK STOCK ARDAL NORTH EAST – REPORTS MARCH 4

Corwen 0 Builth Wells 0
Report: Gavin Billington
These two had shared a six-goal thriller a fortnight earlier – Corwen winning 4-2 against the odds at Lant Avenue – but Saturday’s return at the War Memorial Ground produced a blank score-sheet.
Early on Corwen forward Luke Appleby ran on to a great through ball and lined up his shot, but blasted over the bar.
Robert Lewis then crossed into the penalty area from in front of the away dugout, but Owen Cordiner headed narrowly wide.
At the other end Tommy Rowlands sent a powerful shot which was initially spilled by home goalkeeper Will Hughes, who was able to recover the ball before an opposing player could get a second attempt away.
In the final minute of the half Builth Wells’ Jamie Evans slotted home from six yards, but the offside flag was raised.
Off-target efforts from both sides was the main feature of the second half.
With quarter of an hour to play, Corwen’s Matthew Pleavin went on a long run with the ball before playing it to Henry Evans, who went for goal from the edge of the D, but a deflection took the sting off the shot, allowing keeper Zeke Vivian to gather.
Vivian was the hero in the closing minutes as he produced a stunning double save to deny Henry Evans.
Scott Evans fired wide in the latter stages, and that was Corwen’s last chance.
Llandrindod Wells 2 Llangollen Town 1
Thomas Durant and Jack Evans (penalty) pocketed the first half goals which sealed three points for the hosts, Benjamin Wilson with a late consolation for Llangollen.
Penycae 0 Llanuwchllyn 5
An emphatic win for Llanuwchllyn on their travels, Kyle Jones, Will Owen, John Evans, Iolo Jones and Nathan Davies registering a goal each.
Kyle Jones also missed a penalty, while Cameron Dutton of Penycae was red-carded on 50 minutes.
Rhayader Town 0 Caersws 3
Peter Rees was a hat-trick hero for leaders Caersws, who did what was expected of them at Y Weirglodd.
Rhos Aelwyd 1 Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant 2
Dark horses Llanrhaeadr caused another upset, goals from Joseph Dale Evans (penalty) and James Burgess earning them maximum spoils at Ponciau Park.
Rhos had led through a 15th minute Ian Hughes goal, but the hosts had Declan Molyneux red-carded on 28 with the score still 1-0.
Welshpool Town 1 Cefn Albion 2
Ryan Kehoe and Jordan Johnson knocked in the second half goals which secured three crucial points for Albion towards their title challenge.
Ryan Knott replied for the mid-Wales Lilywhites.
