Madison Williams is enjoying her early experiences of playing in the top flight of Welsh women’s football.

Last month Madison, 17, joined Adran Premier club Pontypridd United from Genero Adran North champions Llandudno.

She has featured in two games so far for James Fishlock’s first team and played and scored for the under-19’s in a 4-3 defeat at Abergavenny after coming on as a second-half substitute.

Manager Fishlock said: “Maddie has settled in really well.

“She’s a very talented and technical player who is very comfortable in possession of the football.  We are looking forward to seeing her play more in phase 2.”

Madison was part of the Llandudno squad which lifted the inaugural Genero Adran North title last season.

Before that she starred for a Penrhyn Bay Under-16 side which reached the FAW Girls Cup final in 2020-21, losing narrowly 4-3 to Barry Town United.

Madison has represented Wales Under-17’s a number of times. She received her cap from Wales’ all-time leading scorer Helen Ward before the Cymru v Slovenia Women’s World Cup qualifier at Cardiff City Stadium last year.

Last season, the teenager came up against Sweden, Scotland, England and Italy. She featured in a Euro qualifier in Sweden.

A centre-back or a full-back, in club grassroots football, Madison has turned out for Penrhyn Bay Girls, Conwy County, North Wales regional teams, Llandudno Swifts and Llandudno Academy Boys and Llandudno Ladies before Pontypridd.

Currently a student at Coleg y Cymoedd in Ystrad Mynach, Caerphilly, she has also been selected for the Wales Colleges squad.

It is partly through her studies that the move to Pontypridd United came about.

“It is mainly because of studies that I’ve joined Pontypridd, but also because I want to play at a higher standard,” said Madison. “I’m really enjoying myself here.”
