A young footballer from Anglesey is one of a number of North Wales girls playing her football in the south of the country.
Lia Huws, 22, a former Trearddur Bay defender, played for Tier 3 side Caerau Ely in the final few games of last season.
The Cardiff side finished third in SWWGL Division One, having gone undefeated in the five games Lia was involved in.
Numerous North Wales players have made their mark down south over the years including Anna Houghton, who won promotion to the Adran Premier at Connah’s Quay Nomads’ expense with Cardiff Met last term and previously played for Barry Town United, as well as Madison Williams, a Wales cap who was part of the Pontypridd United side elevated to the top flight in 2-24-25.
Lia, a former Caernarfon Town Under-16 Girls player, made 30 appearances for Trearddur Bay between 2021-22 and 2024-25.
A student studying for a masters degree in South Wales, Lia took a break from football before joining Caerau Ely towards the end of 2025-26. She has also signed up for the season ahead.
She said: “I’m still down here doing my masters. I am really enjoying it at Caerau Ely. I took a year out of playing so it’s lush to get back to it with a great group.”
